Things are heading in a terrible direction. https://twitter.com/BioTurboNick/sta...91077029437446
And in RI, we are told to avoid heading to the ER except in a true emergency. ICU capacity near 100%. This is with covid cases starting to shoot up, and well before the peak of flu season. And nobody is doing anything about this, even though we know the holidays will make things so much worse.

Meanwhile, from the neighboring state of CT, all these people in the nursing home had been vaccinated. Must have been vaccinated way back in Jan or Feb but it wore off. This is located in an isolated area in the NW corner of the state and it's the Delta form. Seems to have spread like wildfire. I think they would have been eligible for boosters around August at least but they never got them. More evidence that the booster wears off within 6 months, probably moreso in the elderly.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/16/us/co...ome/index.html

A total of 89 residents and staff -- many of whom were fully vaccinated -- have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last seven weeks, Geer Village Senior Community in North Canaan said Friday, and 11 residents and one staff member remain in isolation.
"Sadly, we have lost 8 residents with serious underlying health issues to Covid," the statement said.

And you didn't mention the staff shortages at the hospitals.

CBS news keeps reporting 20+ deaths a day. That's not an incredibly large number, but it doesn't seem to be going down. The full report is "Massachusetts reports 2,650 new COVID cases, 20 additional deaths". I'd very much like to know how those cases break down, in terms of immunized people versus not, but they just report the cases and deaths.

While I was on the CBS site, I also noticed "Boston MedFlight Forced To Take Patients Out Of State Due To Hospital Bed Shortage". I didn't think we were at crisis point because of Covid cases filling the hospitals, but that's not directly the problem; they quote Boston MedFlight CEO Maura Hughes:

"Because as we come into the winter, we are really concerned about flu season and what’s going to happen in the holiday season and having capacity to take care of these patients."

MedFlight has diverted patients to out of state hospitals nearly every day over the last ten days. Hughes says local hospital ICU beds are being taken up by patients who delayed getting medical care during the pandemic.

On the Providence news tonight, they said the problem at RI Hospital isn't covid cases. They said it's flu cases and staff shortages.

Not sure how you can say that no one is doing anything. The very Twitter thread you linked, recommends getting boosters to restore or even exceed the original protection level. So there is something we can do--go get boosted! You can go to CVS.com, sign up with no questions asked.

Are you disputing that the vast majority of the hospitalizations and deaths currently are unvaccinated people?

I am boosted. But when there is a huge part of the state that's not vaccinated, AND we are heading into what will likely be a bad flu season, AND our hospitals already have no beds available 2 weeks into the surge - boosting alone won't be enough by a long shot. I won't die of covid this winter - but I like having an ER available for other illnesses, accidents etc.

I'm disputing exactly what you wrote earlier:

"We are *much* better off than a year ago by all objective metrics."

It is a false statement.
