not trying to be negative or scare people... just look at whats happening... citycenter can't even close their condos at the original pricing... imo, the idea of 5 star in vegas is overblown completely... you need the cheap food and cheap rooms... and again why would you relocate without a guarantee...

Has anyone else not taken the drug test screening but have got an invite for the 2nd department interview? That is my situation. I'll just wait to see how the 2nd dep.interv. goes middle of August.
I also asked Jaime during 1st interv. if their were alot of people transferring from other MGM properties and she said it is weird because she hasnt seen too many people transferring because they are either happy where they are at or they have been through many layoffs when a new casino opens and don't want to go through that again. May be thats a good thing for us.

Hello beverage_server,
One of my co-workers also work at the Bellagio, and she told me one of the reasons that some people are not transfering is because they will not have the senority that they have at their current MGM property. I don't know how that works, I guess we have to wait and see

That is great.....because then alot of shifts/schedules would be available,
and everyone would have day one seniority with alot of new talent.
When I worked in the Circus Circus Buffet as a FoodServer/Beverage Server: employee's were allowed to interview and bid for a transfer to
the Mandalay Bay Hotel, ie: (which was like Beverly Hills, by the way).
Internal applicants were: (not) guaranteed any notion "that they could
just return to their old job if things did not work out", plus the notion of
losing all their seniority at their job, friends, and familiarity, comfort, etc.
That scared off alot of applicants, as a new job is not a sure thing, as
unfortunately: not everyone hired, will be retained due to many, known
and (unknown/don't have to give a reason), circumstances.

I am curious how they will handle seniority. Will they go by date of hire? I think it will be fair with a lottery system for shifts. What do you guys think or has any one else been through it when a new casino opens.

As much as i hate to say it and want to deny it, I think that its an eyesore and will bomb. (my opinion so don't blast me for it)... Alot of locals feel the same way... Unless you are going for a management position ($50k or more etc.. ), why would you relocate for $10 an hour..
I am not relocating for $10 per hour. Im in Michigan and as bad as Vegas may seem Mi is alot worse!!! 15%plus is our current unemployment rate and there is an awful auto industry to try and bounce back on! I will be a colorist and was promised a really great pay percentage! They are not over hiring in the salon and had a pretty intense process to get hired. I have been very selective and interviewed at many other salons in other nice hotels and I was really impressed with the people I met affiliated with the city center. Also I get the feeling that others at some of the struggling properties may be getting nervous about clientele being taken away. Well better get use to it because there will always be a new place opening up to give you some good competition. I like taking risks in life and Im feeling really good about this one!!!

I think if their are any internal people getting transfered they will be hire first, but I don't think anyone will have senority, now thats what a rep told me. But who knows everything seems to be up in the air now
