RWF lives in Port Orange Florida. She used to live on the east side. She does not recommend the area she used to live in. YOu would have trouble with the schools involved.

Talk about roaches. In Florida you can hear them moving the pots and pans in the kitchen at night. Florida has not only the highest humidity in the country, but everything that creeps and crawls and bites and stings lives there in abundance. We are very lucky.

Another one to note is that secondary streets have the same names based on position relative to a section line road. But they don't connect. So a street like Red Coach or Helena or Tomsik may appear 6 or 8 times but none of the segments connect. To find an address on one you take the parallel section line or semi-section until the number is close than cut for it.
In Southern Henderson (near 7 hills) when the road signs were first hung, three PARALLEL streets actually intersected at one corner, until the city realized they were bending the laws of geometry, etc. Green Valley Parkway met Maryland Parkway at Eastern. Never mind the fact that GV Pkwy stops/starts out there a few times due to washes, and Maryland Pkwy also ended at Lake Mead (now renamed St. Rose Pkwy--too many "Parkways").

They "fixed" the problem by renaming the section of Maryland Pkwy to be GV Pkwy, so only TWO parallel roads intersect. I guess three was too much even for Southern Nevada.

I used to live on a curved street where the street numbers started over beginning at my house, but the street name was the same. That always confused the pizza guys but when the fire department got lost then we complained. Henderson's solution again was a quickie--They just made the first section "South" and the portion from our house on was called "West". They claimed this was less confusing than renaming part of the street. Less confusing would have been to caught it when the housing tract was built.

Part of the Joy of Southern Nevada.

The way you can tell when you've gone from Las Vegas into North Las Vegas is that the street signs in Vegas are green and in NLV they are blue. Or is it the other way around? Hmmm. I've never paid attention to the signs in Henderson. They're probably brown from the manure factory fumes.

No, Las Vegas' signs are green, with envy for Henderson. Look at our Parks & Rec, schools (some are bad I know, but most are good), and traffic. We whip Vegas' butt. But our signs are actually faded beyond reading, unless they have been replaced with the pretty ones with the City Seal.

And the manure factory is probably the pig farm in North Las Vegas, that used to be miles from anything but is now surrounded by homes/schools and people complaining about the smell. With the cost of land, at least those pigs are very rich now.

Currently living in Florida I agree with that! This is not the place to be squeamish about anything that crawls, slithers or flies. I have learned that since moving here. Bugs dont bother me, but I have had to get over my fear of reptiles quickly, snakes in particular.

I have had to wrangle snakes out of my enclosed pool area, the pool, and my house. No reptile is going to invade my space! I have even had a stare down with a snake once I got it outside the enclosure LOL... Catching those little lizards that are everywhere and can get inside the house is hard they are fast! Being that I hate reptiles and have a phobia about them, over coming this is was quite a feat... it makes me shiver just to think about it! OOOOOOO

Zinnia, compared to Florida, in Vegas you will see almost ZERO wildlife (no lizards, no snakes, etc.) except for some crawling bugs, some few spiders in your garage) and practically ZERO flying bugs. This is a BIG DIFFERENCE from Florida.

Yep I know, I have been to Vegas several times. Son goes to UNLV... Virtually no bugs or reptiles, in Oregon where we use to live... lots of wildlife. Have to really watch those deer jumping out in front of your car on the road there.

You did forget to mention the other "wildlife" on the strip? LOL

Actually we have a very healthy lizard population. I go by the gecko rule so I leave them alone. Note some cats enjoy lizards.

The flying population is small. Though the bats at sunset over the back yard seem to be getting enough to eat. Toward the end of civil twilight I would guess we have 20 or 30 hunting the area.

Also to be noted: The lizards don't care for cats pulling their tails off.
