I don't mind so much if they have it set up where you don't have to walk through the casino and have a separate entrance, but I don't want to drag my kids through a smoked-filled casino with people drinking, scantily dressed often times, gambling, swearing, etc. I'd rather go to a stand-alone theater. Problem is, from my experience the casinos have the nicest theaters.

It's every Las Vegan's right to choose to go to a casino or not. It doesn't meant they are bad people or that they are undermining everything Las Vegas stands for. That's just ridiculous.

And what exactly does a kid stand to gain by walking through a casino, besides carcinogens?

Access to a movie in a nice theater? Was that a trick question?

Hey, a few more things I thought of,

motorcycle cops are EVERYWHERE

If you leave a CD/DVD case or disk in your car it will melt. I mean seriously melt and attach itself to whatever surface it happens to be on.

Get used to taking a cooler full of water with you everywhere you go or your kids will cost you a fortune in bottled water.

You have to live more than 2 miles from the school to ride the bus.

DO NOT speed in school zones...this is a favorite spot for cops to sit and watch

Many streets here have several different names (Durango=Fort
Apache=Rampart) Very confusing

I am sure I will come up with more as time goes by!!!

Advice is taken. Thanks ..Just wondering you mentioned preschoolers need Hep A shots..how many months apart are they? Just wondering whether I should start one now or at this point just wait and do all three there? We will be out there in October.

It is fine to wait until you get here. Schools understand that Nevada is one of the only states to require this vaccine so most new comers do not have it. The first and second one are given a month apart and the 3rd is I believe 3 months later.

Actually weirder than that. If you continue north on Durango it croses Fort Apache. Think about that...

Another one to note is that secondary streets have the same names based on position relative to a section line road. But they don't connect. So a street like Red Coach or Helena or Tomsik may appear 6 or 8 times but none of the segments connect. To find an address on one you take the parallel section line or semi-section until the number is close than cut for it.

Another one to be aware of...Mapquest and others often mislocate addresses in Las Vegas. Sometimes by a block or more. Particularly true of older homes which have number that don't locate correctly.

The only almost perfect way is to go to the Clark County Information Mapper...it knows where everything is pretty much exactly. Count on tax collectors to keep it all straight.

Apparently most western cities are laid out in a grid with the major cross streets (another phrase you don't hear "back east") almost exactly one mile apart.

Have you ever seen how they number streets in Utah? You need to be an engineer to find your way home.

One Mapquest search had me taking highways across Arizona that don't exist.
