Other than a couple of houses the area hasn't changed much!

They are indeed the Mirror Lakes. In days of old that was a pay-to-fish business. I wonder if Paul Henning ever fished there...

Thanks for the photo Mad. My house I grew up in is in the pic, just to the north of the transmitter building. Most of the houses on the north side of the photo on that block of Appleton were built in 1952/53. My family moved there in 1963. Looks much different now with mature trees. Two of some of the oldest oak trees in Independence sit in that area. One is in the picture to the southeast of the tower. The other is at 27th & Appleton-not in the picture.

You are certainly welcome. All of us marvel at the changes this old town has undergone, yet how much is still the same.

In 1963 this area was mainly farmland. What is there today?

He attended law school in Kansas City but his greater ambition was to sing on the radio.

He went to work singing for KMBC radio.

Giving up a law career, he eventually worked on network radio for the Fibber McGee and Molly show, George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, Dennis Day Show, and the Ray Bolger Show.

He also did motion picture work. Among his accomplishments, he was nominated for an Academy Award.

He is buried in Missouri and has a state forest named after him.
Correct answer is Paul Henning.

What gets me is Number 95 Lake at 19th Terrace North and Redwood Dr. I have looked all over for Number 93, 92, etc. Cannot find them.

Ok, now I remember those. Went past many times on the way to Grain Valley. Don't recall ever fishing there, certainly not with Prairie Lee and Jacomo nearby.

Looks like the eastern half of the southern lake has been drained

Anyone recall what it cost to fish there? I seem to remember the billboard(s) along 40 HW, with a southern directional arrow.
