Perhaps it was first filled in 1895; or perhaps the owner was 95 years old when it was built. Maybe numbers 1 thru 94 were drained and replaced by houses.

Anyone recall what it cost to fish there? I seem to remember the billboard(s) along 40 HW, with a southern directional arrow.
My dad took us fishing there a couple of times when we were very young. It was stocked, so it was highly likely that we would catch something. It seems like there was an entry fee and you then paid per pound for any fish you took home. I have no idea what those prices were.

Pay fishing lakes are pretty rare around here nowadays, but I think the one along 24 Highway near Levasy is still in operation.

What year did this company begin operation at Hayward and Cottage streets?

When did it go out of business?

In the lower right is Kentucky Ave which shifts south just east of the northeast Independence city limits.

The other road diverging from Kentucky Ave and going north hugging Rock Creek is Hayworth Road that seems to no longer exist.

Correct as usual!

When this shot was taken this area was entirely in the county. The 1960 annexation brought most of this into town. The NW part of the photo is KC.

The Rock Creek Junction is a busy one, serving multiple railroads in and out of KC. In 1957 those using this junction included Missouri Pacific; Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe; Kansas City Southern; Gulf, Mobile & Ohio; and Kansas City Terminal Railway.

Most of these lines ran passenger service until at least 1960.

Amtrak Southwest Chief still runs through Rock Creek Junction--probably on Union Pacific rails. The Amtrak schedule shows Sugar Creek as a through place and mentions the following, which is incorrect in reference to Wayne City Landing as far as I know. Sugar Creek eventually annexed the Wayne City Landing site. It seems to also be incorrect in what seems to be a reference to Fairmount Park existing until 1960:

"Sugar Creek was originally known as Wayne’s Landing, an important

link in the westward expansion that served as a port to receive supplies
for early pioneers. The city of Sugar Creek was founded in 1920. For
some 40 years, the area was home to a first-class pleasure resort
serving nearby Kansas City residents."

The Southwest Chief and the Missouri River Runner would appear to be the only AMTRAK trains to serve Kansas City.

The Southwest Chief runs on KCT and BNSF tracks, following the south bank of the Mighty Mo out to Sibley, where it crosses. The River Runner uses KCT and UP tracks, passing thru the heart of Independence. Currently they are the only Amtrak service we get.

I checked the directory on both streets from 1940 to 1960 and didn't see it. Did I miss something, or should I go earlier?
