What California law has to do with this I do not have a clue.

According to California Court case Sweeny vs KANS, Dec 23, 1966, KANS was formed in May 1958 to receive the tangible and intangible personal property of radio station KIMO in Independence, Missouri.

KIMO began broadcasting on August 3, 1947 and went off the air on February 23, 1959.

KANS began broadcasting on February 23, 1959 and went off the air on November 6, 1962.

On August 14, 1959, KANS the defendant corporation was, according to the law suit, indebted to its stockholders in the amount of $47,250 and to the Bank of New York for $20,000, the latter debt becoming due on the following day.

The Sweeny party apparently saved KANS 1510 bacon with an infusion of cash but later sued for damages sustained after KANS went off the air in November 1962--with this case ruling in Sweeny favor.

Additional
KIMO and KANS were country format.

KCCV 1510 began broadcasting on November 12, 1962 and went out on December 15, 1989. (Christian)

KIDZ 1510 began broadcasting on March 31, 1990 and went off the air on August 15, 1991. (R&B Oldies)

KIDZ 1510 began broadcasting again on October 10, 1991 and went off the air on February 14, 1992. (Simulcast with KXXR FM)

KJLA 1510 began broadcasting on April 1, 1993 and went off the air on May 2, 1994. (Format?)

KCTE 1510 began broadcasting on May 2, 1994 and went off the air on October 14, 1999. (Sports Radio)

KCTE 1510 began broadcasting again on October 15, 1999 and went off the air in August 2000. (Hispanic)

KCTE 1510 began broadcasting again in August 2000 and went off the air on February 28, 2001. (Classic alternative sports)

All of these stations were licensed by the city of Independence.

Apparently, 1510 was licensed to parties by Independence from August 3, 1947 to end of February 2001, and has been blank since.

I see where Independence School District advertised for new teachers via large bill boards for three weeks on busy thoroughfares in Wichita and Lawrence, Kansas.

The border raid was performed in April for three weeks at a cost of $4,000 and was an attempt to lure some veteran teachers from Kansas school districts that were finding themselves with an excess of teachers.

Independence needs to hire 45 new teachers.

Oops. KCTE 1510 came back on the air sometime close after Feb 2001 and is still broadcasting.

Another station KCWJ 1030 is listed as being on Valley View Parkway but is licensed by Blue Springs.

Here is that transmitter site as seen in 1957. Sterling is along the right side, Northern to the left.

Just some glimpses into his life.

He was born in Independence the same year that the first US federal cemetery for Union and Confederate graves opened in the state.

He worked in a drug store as a youngster where Harry S. Truman was a frequent customer.

Truman advised him to go to law school.

He attended law school in Kansas City but his greater ambition was to sing on the radio.

He went to work singing for KMBC radio.

Giving up a law career, he eventually worked on network radio for the Fibber McGee and Molly show, George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, Dennis Day Show, and the Ray Bolger Show.

He also did motion picture work. Among his accomplishments, he was nominated for an Academy Award.

He is buried in Missouri and has a state forest named after him.

What goes around comes around…….

Harry S Truman and the Tirey J Ford American Legion Post were instrumental in getting ROTC into William Chrisman High School in 1934.

At one time, the corps of cadets was quite large with six companies making up a school battalion.

Armories and a rifle range existed in the old school on Maple Street and at the replacement school on Noland. One Army officer and three non-commissioned officers rotated in and out on normal three-year military assignments to provide training.

Sometime in the sixties or seventies ROTC was terminated.

I suspect the former rifle range in the sub-basement at the Noland School and in the basement of what is now the world headquarters for the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are used today for storage and no one has a clue as to their once former use.

Today, Van Horn is the only school in Independence with a small ROTC unit but there are plans to create detachments at William Chrisman and at Van Horn next school year.

Summer training camp for the Van Horn folks was at Wentworth Military Academy. In the fifties summer training camp was held at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

His family home was razed to make room for the current path of US 24 Highway.
