In 1973 there was a petition circulated within part of Independence seeking a rather drastic action. They failed to accomplish that action back then, but did finally do so many years later. Said action back then would have required voter approval on 2 separate ballots, the same as when it was finally accomplished.

What was that drastic action?

It was a case of "what happens when I push this button?"

BINGO! That is an issue that took many years to resolve.

Okie Doke

Today's Examiner says Polly's Pop is now coming off the bottling line for consumers to take home. It had previously been available "on tap" in several Independence Square restaurants.

Two ounces of syrup and ten ounces of carbonated water go into each bottle. The formula contains cane sugar and includes grape, orange, strawberry, pineapple, root beer, and cream soda. Apparently, the bottler has to scrounge around for a source of glass bottles.

I did not see anything as to whether the parrot is swinging on a swing and holding a bottle of Polly's.

I also did not see anything about local or national distribution to grocery stores. From time to time I get a gourmet brand of soda flavors here called Hank's which is bottled in Pennsylvania. A four pack of glass goes for $5. Reminds me of Polly's each time I get a pack.

An old Polly's pop bottle with four parrots on the bottle is on Ebay for $160, today. This bottle is older than the one we are most familiar with.

I nominate Pearjas as our official investigative reporter. He is on the Square daily, so he can find out more about where Polly's Pop can be purchased, if they ship to far-off places, and such. We also want photos of the bottling line and the bottled product.
