Probably too early for Lee's Summit widening maybe and it did not seem to have the right perspective. That was around the time Noland was widened but I dont think this is Noland either.

I have the car pegged as a '61 Rambler Classic.

According to a real estate agent in '63, when my folks bought their newly constructed house, she gave the reason for those lamp posts as a builders response to a total lack of street lighting in the new subdivisions of Independence. Out here in Colorado, street lighting responsibility is put on the builder and the cost is passed along to the home buyer. Maybe it is that way in Independence now also.

Extension of either 35th or 39th?

The terrain would match a northward view along 39th in the Sycamore Hills area.

Several of the houses I know that had them were built in subdivisions outside the city at the time of construction. The Gas Company also pushed them. They did give a soft, warm glow rather than the harsher light of a flood-lamp. Of course the Gas Company didn't point out that it was on 24/7, adding a soft warm glow to the sunlight!

I came home one day to my Kansas home and smelled gas. The line running from the lamp post had also been routed to an outdoor barbeque cooker. The gas company immediately came out and shut the gas off and determined the leak was coming from that line. The line had been installed by a previous owner and was not what it should have been. So, rather than messing with gas, having a new line trenched, etc., I changed the post light to an electric with a sensor. Ran the electric line a short distance underground and hooked into my garage circuit. As I recall there were kits available just for replacing gas mantles. During Christmas time each year I would put in a blue bulb, which did not help a lot with security but provided an amazing landscape when there was the frequent Kansas snow on the ground. I thought about putting in a red light but then thought the better of it.

I suppose if someone were to turn on the front porch light they would have the same security.

I suspect the newly constructed street in this 1963 view (probably Adams) to be one and the same as seen in CaseyMo's quiz. Hopefully he'll return with an answer.

You think I would not return to congratulate the winner? Yes, that is Adams. In 1963, I graduated from WCHS. In this 1963 photo, that young lady became my wife less than six years later.

Chrisman must have been bursting at the seams by 1963 with enrollees stretching all the way down to Sycamore Hills
