Still working? HA! I had the good sense to retire right in the middle of a pandemic. I went from going to work, to going nowhere!

Apparently I don't count either. I've been happily unworking for seven years.

It was an attempted joke, Gentleman.

Pearjas is likely the only one of us still working

Happy New Year

I'm only a very infrequent contributor to this long-running thread, and because I grew up in Kansas City rather than Independence, I will likely remain one.

But I'm definitely still working.

That’s true, I definitely missed that. Probably CatHerder too.

Something I just read in The Examiner dated January 16, 1957 has me waxing nostalgic for the good old days. The First National Bank of Independence is advertising a guaranteed 3% (yes, 3%) interest on savings!

Our S&L of choice was Metropolitan Savings which I believe had a location @ 23rd and Sterling.

I had my first passbook savings account there

"What is Metropolitan?
A better place for savings.
Where is Metropolitan?
Downtown and Independence.
1014 on Walnut Street
and 11221 East 23rd."

Jeez, I still remember that jingle from the 1960s.

They opened a third branch in Gladstone in the 1970s and had to revise the jingle.

I seem to remember their sign with a rotating 'M' there on 23rd.
