There is also a motel a few hundred feet north of Highway 24 on Salisbury Road.

It is of the old type with individual buildings for each room. It appears to still be open.

I suppose it is probably long term but there is a sign outside that says motel.

Appears to be the Beauty Rest Motel.

1960 @ Holder Beauty Rest Hotel, Mrs Catherine Stapleton. 1631 Salisbury Rd. Like Marr's Beeling Auto Service, some of these places have stayin' power (no pun intended).

US 24 continued eastward to the city limits at what was then US 71 Bypass/Allen Rd. I remember the Moon Light Motel, between Cogan and 71, also the Great Western Motel at that intersection.
My Beloved and I don't recall the Salisbury Hills Restaurant. There was Little Leroy's on the southeast side of 24, the building is still there and currently serves Chinese food.

The Beauty Rest Motel is still listed in our current phone book, and the Great Western has been in continuous operation all these years as well.

If things aren't too hectic I'll post another mystery photo this weekend, hopefully one that will take WCHS at least an hour to locate!

On the N. side apparently Allen Sinclair and Salisbury Hills Rest. were next door neighbors, then 24 runs a gamut of residences out to Cogan Ln. where Bob's Hardware and Rental was at 15700. Next was the "B-B-Lodte" (sic) Motel, which I presume was a misspelling of "Lodge" Moffett's Auto Svc and the Owens Supertte Market and Sam's DX round out 24 to city limits.

Not much else on the S. side other than the aforementioned Conoco Inn & Moon Light Motel. Risinger Implement Co. and "The Coffee Shop. at 71 Bypass/Allen is pretty much it.

Maybe those might ring the bell for the restaurant.

I'd pay 8 bucks to ride that train to KC. However, from the description, I think I would be willing to pay more for a better eastern takeoff point. I wonder what the next depot to the east would be (without the energy now to look it up ?

Kansas City
Independence
Lee's Summit.
Warrensburg.
Sedalia
Jefferson City
Hermann
Washington
Kirkwood
St Louis

I the rode the Missouri Pacific Eagle equivalent a number of times between Independence and Warrensburg when I was going to school there in the sixties. It was always an enjoyable ride and I was, at the time, living in an overflow dormitory one-half block from the station.

Seems to me Pleasant Hill was a stop back then and maybe even Holden.

The Amtrak ride takes five hours forty minutes to travel the 283 rail miles from KC to St Louis.

Anyone remember the Cottage Inn out in that area on 24? I think it was a restaurant.
