I never said Indy was like Birmingham. It probably isn't.

While racism is racism, in terms of definition, it still disproportionately affects minorities (especially blacks) in ways beyond making people mad (the main result of reverse racism). The KKK and Black Panthers also only fringe groups - neither has an effect on the day-to-day life of people the way institutional racism does on blacks in America.

I will reiterate, midwesterners have a very hard time accepting that. It has something to do with the culture of the midwest in general.

I'm a minority myself and I don't go around acting like a victim all the time because major mainstream media says so. Morgan Freedom made a very good point about racism in this video. He is tired of being labeled a victim. I agree we should stop pouring the fuel into this fire and realize we aren't living in the Jim Crow era anymore. Some people have a hard time believing we have come a long way since then. Sure there is always room for improvement. Can we get rid of racism completely? It's still going to be around but my point is it's not as bad as it once was.

I agree with this. To add, I am willing to bet my first paycheck on my (hopefully) future job in Indy that Indiana is better with race relations than my home state of South Carolina.

In my humble opinion, I don't think so. It's a natural human instinct to believe that we are better than others. It's just that, in civilized societies, we keep such thoughts to ourselves. If someone claimed they never thought they were better than other people, they're either lying to you, or yet worse, lying to themselves. Now, when racism is accompanied by hate, then we start having all kinds of problems.

By the way, there's no racism in Indy. From what I saw, everyone minds their own business.

Everyone is guilty of lying at one point in their life but people change for the better or worse. (nothing always stays the same) If it did we still be living in the Jim Crow era. Historically, generations and behaviors change over time. Of course, you don't have to believe me and imagine in your own world of denial that every thinks they're better than everyone which isn't always true. You can't make generalizations about an entire population (race) of people you never even met. You may have one person who thinks there better then you may have someone who always put others before them. There's about 829,718 in Indy. Do you mean to tell me you met all 829,718 and assume you know who they are? You know what they think on the inside?

I guess if everyone minded there own business then there are no interracial friendships and relationships in Indy. (that's what you call a "generalization") Sure we are human but not everyone thinks the way you do.

Really? Wow, small world! I moved down to Greensboro my junior year in high school and went to college at UNCG... I spent a lot of time in Winston Salem as well as High Point, North Wilksboro and Boone. Great area for the most part! What did you think of Winston Salem? Did you like it?
