Question: can we or can we not post article content? Because I see a number of posts in this very thread that are posting article content.

Color me confused.

Just from the past few pages:

A short blurb, yes. But the general guideline at CDF is to link to content, not to include content here. However, adding a few lines of content for context isn't a big copyright problem. Adding what appears to be significant portions of text falls outside the guidelines.

Also, this article above isn't an "article"...it's an opinion blog post really. GENERALLY speaking if we post every editorial that furthers our personal views, this thread turns into a battle ground of opposing ideologies. This is why I TRY to limit posting to news content versus opinion blogs.

Thank you. I really didn't understand the distinction.

Makes for tough work distinguishing between news and opinion; more often than not they're the same thing.

The Idaho Statesman is not an "opinion blog", it is the state's largest newspaper.

But your last post (#700) was not a news item, it was an editorial. This thread is intended to be news items, which are different than editorials regardless of whether they came from the states largest newspaper.

Everything in that news article is pretty much true and sums up the opinions of a lot of Idahoan's. Those of us who actually live here, especially Boise are quite aware of the shenanigans of our state government and it isn't pretty.

That editorial/article is completely relevant to Idaho News.

That there is basis in fact doesn't mean it's not an opinion piece. As such, it isn't in keeping with the spirit of this thread which is to post news items. I'm sure if you looked you could find news articles that reported all the various actions by the legislature that are highlighted in the editorial. Posting those would have been appropriate.

I guess I don't see it the way you do. This thread can't be all butterflies and unicorns and chocolate milk and about guns in North Idaho. If I recall, several of those topics noted in the article I posted have been discussed in various threads here, some over in the Boise forum.

I hope people outside of Idaho who are escaping California or other states realize our state is not perfect and our government is probably just as whacky as the state government you want to leave behind.

Being the OP, I should probably weigh in here. This is what I had in mind with the thread:

I thought it might be a good idea to share links to news articles here--sometimes there are things happening that we just want to tell each other about without necessarily creating a whole thread of comments. If the discussion "has legs," we can create a new thread.
