Police Report Fatal Accident in Idaho Due to Snow on Road

A 69-year-old female, from Clark Fork, Idaho, was driving a silver 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, westbound on State Highway 200, when she lost control on the snow-covered road and left the roadway. The vehicle entered the eastbound ditch striking a guard rail before going down a steep embankment and overturning. The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver was transported to Bonner General Hospital by ground ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

That's terrible. Trying to remember if anybody we know in our little community drives a silver Pathfinder...

I realized I got the message from Nixle yesterday:
Quote:
Advisory: AVOID Highway 200 just west of Trestle Creek Rd, in Hope, due to an accident.

Yeah, sorry -- I forgot to mention exactly where this accident was. I happened to drive by there today, and there were still 6 or 8 "emergency vehicles" at the site. Looked like they were trying to winch the car up the steep slope. There was indeed quite a snowstorm yesterday -- bad day to go out, that's the damn sure.

Sad news: Shasta Groene lost her home to a fire:
https://bonnercountydailybee.com/new...er-county-dai/

Remember Shasta? She was the sole survivor of Joseph Duncan's massacre of her family at Wolf Lodge Bay in 2005, and helped put Duncan away by being able to guide the police to the remote place in the Bitterroots where he'd kept her and her brother captive, and where he'd murdered the boy. Now she has four children of her own, and they've lost their home. The article mentions a GoFundMe page, but there's no link to it.

I remember seeing the billboard with the faces of Shasta and her brother on 95 in June of 2005 when authorities were looking for the abducted children, hoping they might be rescued against all odds. Fortunately, so did a waitress at Denny's in CdA where Duncan took Shasta after killing her brother, and she called the police.

Added: Here's the GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/8e8a74af

And here's the local Nampa news: https://www.kmvt.com/2024/03/07/shas...ve-house-fire/

Awful!

Fires burning stuff down seems to be going around. Over the border in Noxon, three businesses on the main drag burnt to the ground. The hardware store was saved. And earlier, on Hwy 200, The Hereford restaurant/bar burnt down. It had just been rebuilt -- because of a previous fire. What the heck?!

Oh no! That little row of old businesses was really colorful. And I'm upset about the new Hereford restaurant burning down--it was a handsome new log building, service was quick, and their menu was varied and good.

Noticed this new law on legal minors entering a public library in Idaho.

https://x.com/AKBrews/status/1807933318299635868

I understand the second bullet point but this is still absolute parent control. Something to think about imo. Imo teens should get certain rights with age gradually beyond driving and work. Right to enter public library on own choice at 16, 13, 10...

The only 2 places they can't go are bars... and public libraries?? To me, a public library is one of very best places they should go, if you can encourage or convince them, especially in summer.

Idaho libraries can't by state law preclude guns in the building though.

My understanding is that generally minors can walk into an MMA fight unescorted unless in a few locales in country with an opinion / law on that.

Should they be allowed into a fast food restaurant or arcade unescorted?

Passing laws is fairly tedious and most states can't / don't do 1000 a session. Do one, probably don't do others. Wonder what education bills didn't get full consideration or passage.

Ways to get around information controls though.

I do believe this is to enter a certain area in the Library where they keep adult topic books.

I guess there is a distinction between the state law and how it is being implemented in specific libraries. The law was cited at the library in the link but the specific rules implemented were their chosen method of trying to ensure compliance with it.

It wasn't clear from the link if the entry prohibition was to the library as a whole or the adult section but apparently it was to the adult section.

Thanks for the reply.

There is apparently some effort to standardize implementation. Further direction from legislature and / or state library association may be forthcoming in future. Some libraries have raised doubts / concerns about the feasibility of and liability for ensuring unauthorized children never enter the adult section.
