I was with Geico for 5 years - had an accident ( damage worth of $2500 ) - Insurance raised by 20%
Changed to Progressive - Every 6 months my premium went down - stayed with them for 4 years..
this year I changed the insurance to Nationwide just to get the benefit of Home Insurance Discount..

Progressive is very good,, every renewal - policy premium goes down...

^^Everybody is different. You just have to do your homework and shop around. For me, progressive was one of the most expensive. I have a perfect driving record, not even a ticket, so Geico is currently the cheapest for me. Depending on the car I had, StateFarm was at one time the cheapest and another time it was Liberty.

Progressive if you just need auto. Check out Liberty Mutual if you want auto and homeowner's. Of course with an accident now, a new policy probably won't be cheap.

Liberty Mutual has the lowest prices an most of my friends use it. So far no problems with it.

I switched to Progressive from Geico and saved about $100 every 6 months. The longer you are with them the more discounts you get as well. They also offer small accident forgiveness and large accident forgiveness after a certain number of years with them where if you do have a claim, your rates won't increase because of it.

However, since you now have a claim, your rates will probably be higher no matter who you go with than if you didn't have a claim.

When you bundle homeowner's and auto, your insurance is the cheapest. When I was insurance shopping a few years ago, Liberty Mutual and Amica Insurance, had the best ratings, customer satisfaction and rates.

If you have military connections, look at USAA. My father and my husband's father were in the military, so we qualify to be insured by them. They have good rates and good customer service When you make a claim or get in an accident they take care of it.

Not always true. I pay about $400/6mths for 50/100 coverage with Geico and it was over $600 for LM if combined with home insurance. Progressive was over $600 also, per their 'calculator'. I showed the LM rep my Geico policy and let him priced it out, he couldn't beat it.

Thanks all for the good ideas. I ended up going with Farmers that provided the best rate. I actually ended paying 20% less than what I paid Geico before their 45% increase. Bye Bye Geico and "you know what" after 20 years of giving you my business

Hi Guys, i've started shopping around again and decided to take a look at my coverages. What do you all have or recommend for the Houston area?

1. Property damage liability: currently, mine's at 100,000, but i think that's too much. Maybe 50,000 is better?

2. Personal injury protection. Mine's currently at 5000.

3. Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury: 100,000/300,000

4. Uninsured Motorist Property Damage: 25,000/ $250 Ded

TIA!
