What can I expect to pay for auto insurance in Houston? Moving from SD to Houston and want to budget our expenses. We own a 1997 Ford Expedition XLT and a 2000 Saturn SL. Thanks for the help.

You should probably use Progressive or Geico websites with a fake (but actual) address. There are too many factors involved with car insurance. Credit is also a biggie. Whether it's trashed or used liberally can make it shoot up pretty fast in Texas.

Just got a quote from Geico for around $100.00/month, not too bad. The credit thing really sucks!

Sounds about right. It's about that much per month for us on 2 fully covered cars + rental. It can suck if your credit is screwed, but I understand it has to be really screwed or maxed to the max to make a big difference. I've known people in poor situations who said the mainstream companies were so high, that they were forced to use monthly policies. That can be taken care of in a strip mall (esp look for check-cashing centers and Aaron's rental), or over those phone #'s advertised during Judge Judy or The People's Court.

Geico robbed me when I first got insurance, $100 a month for a policy I got the next year from Progressive for $50 a month and then later still moved to Liberty Mutual for $25 per month. Make sure you shop around.

This happened to me for a few years after I got out of college and was in the ''credit building'' phase of life. Every 6 months I had to open a new policy with a new company to get the best rate, then it tapered off. As mentioned, credit is only checked every 3 years so if you're in any sort of ''building'' phase, you've gotta shop around!
