Hi, I am trying not to pay over a $1000 a year for auto insurance. Can anyone recommend a good place that's reasonable and offers good coverage?
So far some of the quotes I have been getting were almost double what I'm used to. Thanks

Auto insurance can be expensive if you live in the city. I use Amica for both of our cars and each one runs something approaching $1k. Granted, the value and type of car will determine much of the premium you pay. You might also consider adjusting your deductible if you need to get your insurance under a certain amount.

Since this is a car city, having good, comprehensive auto insurance is a must!

For minimum coverage I used to pay 200. Did you get your TX driver's licence yet? Also your cars need to be registered here...otherwise your premium is going to explode.

I get a good rate from Liberty Mutual. Pay like $450 a year for full coverage on the minivan but we live in Montgomery County and rates are much lower here.

I haven't switched to a TX license yet b/c I wanted to find a good insurance company first. I want to trade in my car for something less expensive but know I'd have to have TX insurance first to do so.

If you get yourself a texas license first, you would save some money. Also, if you carry higher limits you will save some serious money. Get your vehiclie TX first then call you agent to see what vehicles your look at will save you money if any.

Thanks,

Depending upon where you are from insurance in Houston costs more. If I were to register my car here it would cost almost $800 a year more than in my hometown.

Wait...register a car here in Texas for $800 a year! No way, no how!
I came from Ca. and it would cost us close to that for each car...here I registered them ALL for almost half that!

Not to mention she said $800 a year more. I'm thinking she is counting insurance in there, not just registration.

Harris County has high auto insurance rates. It depends on your age, how long you have been driving, previous claims, the vehicle you are insuring, your credit scores (yes they do check, even if they say they dont) and whether you have had ins. consistently prior to getting new insurance.

I've been w/State Farm for more than 7 years now - my rates have fallen every year. (no tickets, no accidents) I have 2 trucks - full coverage AND renters insurance.

$100 a month - no b/s. While my neighbor is 25 - male - and pays triple in premiums. NO ONE can beat the rates I pay - so maybe I should try that company who advertises on TV - $500 cash if we can't beat your rates. I could use that money for my road trip. LOL

Sometimes it doesn't suck to be me. LOL
