Now that I'm ready to get in-state plates I need a good insurer. I'm with State Farm now but I'm ready to do some shopping if it will save me a good bit of money.

I recommend that you do a search of the forum. This has been asked and answered many times. In short, everyone recommends their auto insurer.

Spend $20 on a defensive driving course if you haven't already and get a 10 percent discount year on year over whatever the best rate you can find is.

I would recommend get couple of quotes from auto insurers you like, let state farm know about what quotes you are getting and ask them what makes them better and can they beat the quote in terms of price for the same quote. I think if you have a good history of driving....why wouldn't they want to have your business. It may not work all the time...but no harm in trying. I did the same with geico n state farm n geico beat the price of state farm. good luck

I have always had good luck with nationwide! If you have a house put them both with the same company, it saves me quite a bit. Good luck!

I’d listen to Grunn and Scubadooba2! Get defensive driving certified and try for a multi-line discount with the same insurer for house and car. I’d say go one step ahead and install air-pillows in your car. Check The Hartford (http://hartfordauto.com/). They have some good value added benefits with their insurance programs and I think they save you almost 10% on auto and 15% on home when you combine both with them. Once you’ve selected your auto insurance provider, it’s a good idea to check with their rep about any schemes or special discount programs they might have going at the time and try to use it to your benefit.

State Farm hiked my auto rate up to around $900 for 2 cars a few years back. I went to Progressive and got it down to about $550, and I have higher coverage than I did with State Farm. Been with Progressive for 6 or 7 years now, even use them for homeowner's insurance too.
