I recently purchased new bath towels from Younkers- Karen Neuburger for $15- $10 off. I have had them for maybe 6 weeks, and they look like #$#-
the threads on both sides of the towels have somehow gotten pulled, and they now look like a cat has been hooking its claws into them like crazy. Also bought some at Walmart for $7.50- just as thick and big as the K.N.s. They are behaving the same way!! So, saw some 30 x 58's at Target for $10- tried them- and within one week they are starting to do the same thing!!! Am I losing my mind? Nothing has changed about the way I use them, or wash them- my 8 year-old towels have no pulls at all. Has this been happening to anyone else? I did pull one loop on a towel with my fingertips, and it pulled out so EASILY- almost as if they are barely woven in the towel..I sure would appreciate some feedback....

Simple answer:

Made in China

Need I say anything else?

Ok just one thing: Karen Neuburger (sounds so American doesn't it) has partnered up with Cranston New York which is China's largest towel and linin manufacturer.

Look at the label before buying ANYTHING !!!!

2 thirds of all imported Chinese products are identified as defective by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. About 10% of that number is downright dangerous to deadly because of dangerous chemicals which are banned in the USA being used to manufacture them. Americans are getting sick from all kinds of construction materials, toys and clothing made in China. Some cases lead to death.

This whole thing sickens me that people here would sacrifice their and their family's health to save a few pennies......and lose a few more American jobs.

There have been times when I've walked into a store that sells alot of things manufactured in China and nearly become ill just walking in the store. Some parts of Walmart and Target, and dollar store-type places, particularly their shoe departments, will make me feel sick because of the fumes. Its probably the glue or something...but it smells awful.

Back to the OPs question, I have the same problem and would like to know some recommendations for towel brands that are a good weave and do not pull easily. Thanks.

So if Target and Walmart are the places to avoid, where does one get quality towels?

Calphalon towels and dish cloths seem to be holding up well for me. They are a bit pricey but I got a lot of them from Linens in Things when they went out of business. I haven't replaced one, yet, and I got my first one 8 months ago. I haven't had any seems coming apart or any holes in the fabric, yet.

Lands' End has wonderful towels that do not fray or fade.

That's really a bad experience I have heard. Buying from big stores and all ending up the same way is a horrible experience.

I just get mine at the big hotels. They usually have at least four out there on the display rack in the bath. Love those ones with the Big S in them. Can wear it like a cape and surprise the GF. Never a pulled thread. That is quality for you.

Default Made me look.

I have Martex towels that I have been unable to wear out. They're over 10 years old and were made in the USA.

Yup !

And me being in the construction biz I am well aware of all the Chinese made construction materials making people sick. There are several cases of people dying from the fumes of Chinese sheetrock. Plywoods and cabinets are so infested with formaldehyde that they kill bugs who walk on it.

But as long as people demand cheap junk then the Walmart parking lots will always be full of those who will never look at the American flag the same way ever again.
