I lived up in Frederick MD for two years and there is a state park mountain area near town that has awesome scenic overlooks of frederick and another small town to the west, that you can even drive to.

Monte Sano mountain next to huntsville also has scenic overlooks that you can drive to.

I don't thin paris mountain has anything like that, not even one to hike to. I get the impression there is one up there but it's off the trail.

I think that would help to get more vistors up there.

It doesn't - something I've lamented for all 12 years that we've lived here. I personally don't think a scenic overlook similar to the one at Caesar's Head with a small shop included, would be disruptive to any reasonable human beings who might live adjacent to or near it; unfortunately except for the state park, most if not all of Paris Mountain is privately owned and residential. I'd personally like to see something like the Baby Doe's Matchless Mine restaurant that Birmingham used to have on Red Mountain overlooking the city back in the day. I enjoyed many a Sunday champagne brunch up there!

There *are* apparently some scenic views to be had from a couple walking/hiking trails at Paris Mtn State Park, but that probably depends on time of year/foliage. You can also apparently get fairly easy access to the area on top of the mountain where all the transmission towers are - Great view of Greenville from there, but not an optimum setting.

Default Altamont Rd CANNOT Handle Any More Traffic

I completely disagree with this notion. Altamont Rd. is already too narrow, too heavily traveled with vehicles and cyclists and too poorly maintained to handle the additional traffic an overlook would avail.

I will disagree secondly from a different angle. The "overlook" by the many antennae of television and radio stations have attracted vagrants over the years. I think Tower Drive remains under close surveillance these days.

Well, not having some sort of public overlook on the mountain is a big FAIL for this area IMHO. Would be REALLY cool to have a nice area atop the mountain with views of both the city and the Blue Ridge in the distance, and have that somehow connected directly with Reedy Square when that's built. But we dream...

Yes, Paris Mountain needs an overlook park like the park at the Roanoke Star. For those of you who have been up to the Roanoke Star in the late afternoon / early evening, you know how magical it is as the lights of the city of Roanoke start to come on and twinkle!

Agreed. Greenville needs to step up it's game. The city/county is missing a major source of tourism here. It would be so easy to do!

gsupstate,
How would this be "so easy to do"? This is private land. If you want a view, buy a lot.
