It's just me tonight, and I'm not really all that hungry, so something simple. I roasted some beets the other day, so I'll probably warm some up in the oven and eat them with crumbled feta cheese and chopped pistachios. If you're not a beet fan, this might not sound very appealing, but I love them, and the above is one of my favorite ways to eat them.

Default Oktoberfest Cuisine

Dinner on the road: Stopped at Ketzler's German Schnitzel House in Granbury, Texas, for some wiener schnitzel with jager gravy, kase spaetzle (w/cheese, onions, spices, and bacon), and a vegetable medley (squash, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots). That was the main course. The appetizers were potato pancakes with lots of sour cream, along with assorted sausages (weiss wurst, nurnberger, and traditional and smoked bratwurst) sided with brown, spicy mustard. Iced tea to drink.

Two kinds of pirogi - one stuffed with farmer's cheese and the other with wild mushrooms, a link of Kielbasa, beet salad with sour cream, and braised cabbage. A glass of Pinot and individual apple crisps for dessert.

They say the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome.

I must be insane, because I AGAIN ordered a Reuben Sandwich and fries from a local place here, and AGAIN it was just ok. Just less than what it should be. I want to like this place, they cure all their own meats and make everything from scratch.

Fries were good but strange (a sweetish aftertaste), sandwich was soggy from the styrofoam packaging even though the place is 5 minutes from my house.

Sigh.
