Not very (hot).

If you were fine with Vegas' heat, El Paso is cooler than Vegas. El Paso gets several days each summer above 100 degrees for highs, but usually only up to around 103, 104, 105.

Look at the differences in average temps:

EL PASO:

Average Weather for El Paso, TX - Temperature and Precipitation

LAS VEGAS, NV:

Average Weather for Las Vegas, NV - Temperature and Precipitation

You'll notice that no month ever AVERAGES a high above 100 degrees in El Paso, with the warmest average high temp months being 95 in June and 94 in July. In Vegas, you get a whopping 3 months where the average high temp is over 100, including July at a sizzling 108 and August at 105.

Compared to Santa Fe, El Paso is very hot. Compared to Vegas, El Paso is quite pleasant. To me, El Paso has one of, if not the very best, year-round climates in the entire US.

Pretty much anywhere. Seriously. Just stop at one of the seemingly thousands of mom-and-pop type stands in EP that serve Mexican food...they all have just incredible tamales, menudo, or Mexican food in general - probably the best city in the US for Mexican food.

Have no idea about raw oysters...maybe some residents of EP could help there. (And truly, the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert probably isn't the ideal place to look for a plethora of great seafood anyway! ). However, I FOUND a great Mexican seafood place in EP called Senor Fish...it is right off of I-25 around Viscount on El Paso's east side. Great Mexican seafood (tons of food for the price too).

I have a long 60 acres with it's major axis pointing into the prevailing winds that has my own 4,000 foot strip about 15 miles south west of Dell City.
I fly direct to the Pima VOR, and just before I get there, I intersect the dirt road that leads into Timberon from the east. I just follow that, and halfway there, I can make out the runway that I am on runway heading for, but slightly to the north of centerline of. Brie

LdyJ....if you love Charleston then you'll probably not like Las Cruces and not because i'm putting Las Cruces down but because it's a whole another world from Charleston. Although a New Mexican i have family in Charleston and know that city and South Carolina fairly well.

Most obvious is the water and the beaches and swamps and also the humidity and it's green green green and flat everywhere in and around Charleston where as Las Cruces is very dry as it's in the Chihuahuan desert and very little water and little humidity and surrounded by rugged mountains.

So if you like water and humidity then Charleston is your place but if you want no humidity and little rain and water then you may like Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico.

Do you have a fuel station at your strip too? Just curious how you fuel up to take the many trips you take.

Thanks for the info, all. It is a dilemma. Although I love South Carolina, I worry about how we will adjust to the humidity. I don't want to return to Las Vegas to live; I'm finished with the summers there. I always found the desert beautiful, too, but, of course in a different way then SC. My husband says it's because it's all new to me. Then there's also an issue with our children. One lives in Dallas and the other in Las Vegas. EP/LC puts us right between the two - almost to the mile! I find housing in both SC and LC affordable, but property taxes in the EP area seem very high. It must be a county thing as I know my daughter who lives in Dallas doesn't pay that high a rate. I'm definitely going for a tamale as soon as I get that way - I haven't found a single Mexican restaurant since we've been in the south that seems to know how to make one! As or the oysters - if I had to give them up. ah well <G>!

One thing i like about Las Cruces is that even though the summers can get to the mid to high 90's it's a dry heat so if you are sitting underneath a nice shade tree you are not covered with sweat like if you were in a humid place.

It's a problem that i have faced in my own life as i love the Atlantic Ocean and the Beaches but despise the humidity as i was always covered with sweat 24/7 when i go out there.
