Ok moderate I can agree with on 6-8. Milder I think is an underestimation.

Edit" But moderate means no school, roads will be very treacherous ...so on. Most businesses if not almost all will tell their employees to work from home. Its not a nothing burger.

Im pissed I havent had time to check out the sound! Now snow will be on the ice so wont look as dramatic. I'll try to go this weekend. Should be even more unless water mixing in ruins the freezing temps.

# of Blizzards? Hang on..
here you go. For NWS NY area (Long Island, NYC, Southern CT)

It was like that in the winter of '15 too... any time the New Haven buoy temp falls below 33 (the freezing point of the sound is 29.3, but the buoy is out at sea so the coastal areas are colder).

This from the Boston NWS office

\ Incredibly difficult to forecast, quite the headache. Any
tiny shift on the order of 10 miles can make all the difference in
snow amounts, main threats, impacts.

And then there's the cold afterwards.

Or, should I say, COLD. Record setting.
