heavy snowfall outlined for SouthEast New England including Eastern CT for Christmas. . I think they jumped too soon on this. It's possible but the fine detailed of the storm off the coast is still unknown.

The northern branch of the polar jet will become the more
dominant stream heading into next week. Before then though, some
phasing between the two branches occurs as strong jet energy
lifts out of the Mid Mississippi Valley and into the Northeast
by Christmas Day
.
12Z global model guidance and corresponding
ensemble means have come into better agreement with a frontal
wave forming off the Mid Atlantic coast Sunday night
in
response to the aforementioned jet energy. This results in a
surface low that tracks near or just east of the 40N...70W
benchmark Christmas morning.
This scenario would be favorable
for a light snowfall event across the region Sunday night into
Monday morning. Boundary layer temperatures at the onset may
allow for some rain briefly mixing in at the coast before a
transition to all snow.

The
tricky part of this forecast is that rapid cyclogenesis occurs
with the low near or just east of the area Monday morning,
likely sparing the region a significant snowfall event
. Eastern
sections of Long Island and southeast Connecticut however could
see more depending on how quickly this development happens, or
less should it occur too late. However, the jet energy by
itself should be sufficient for at least a period of light
snowfall and/or flurries across the region.

Any snowfall should be over by late morning/early afternoon
Monday. Strong NW winds will follow with gusts of 25 to 40 mph,
strongest near the coast.

.

White Christmas still looking likely this year. You wont know it tomorrow while its raining with grass showing. lol

Snow will start after midnight Saturday night. End by late morning. Have to see about coastal areas. Always tough with these little events especially when there's no arctic air in place.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New York NY

In summary an accumulating snow Sunday night into Monday looks
reasonable at this time before snow tapers off Monday morning
across much of the region.

Gusty NW winds on the backside of the low are expected Monday
afternoon, with gusts up to 40 mph per latest profiles, winds
within the mixed layer.

Euro has little snow Christmas but agrees on the snowstorm for 30th. Cold coming

A mix and a mess and some freezing rain tonight
Plain rain Saturday AM
Late Christmas Eve light snow- a few inches
Dec 30th something bigger?
Very cold temps after the 25th.

Anyone see a snow map for the Christmas storm yet? I know it's premature. I'm just excited.

From the NAM model for Christmas snow.. Have to get that storm to go 50 miles more eat for the coast to get more... but then interior sections would lose out.

New Update is wetter/snowier.. And this doesn't include todays and tomorrows for MA and New England.
