Here's the criteria for High Wind Warning..

"Issued when sustained winds of 40 mph or greater are forecast for 1 hour or longer, or wind gusts of 58 mph or greater for any duration"

Did we have that after Sandy? I don't even know how to check other than look at my saved Alerts map throughout the months and that would be time consuming. I dont remember "sustained" winds above 40mph nor wind gusts over 50mph since Sandy (except last week). I could be wrong though. Actually, didn't we have that in some blizzards since then? Hmmm. I wonder if it only happened during the winter now.

Winds I don't know be an issue. We had some strong winds nthing touching 75, but a few events around 50 mph. A lot of trees down, but being wet could see more coming down should be interested.

Warmed up a bit sun was out for an hour back to clouds. Mid 50's right now.

The wind forecast is nuts for tomorrow morning. NWS Upton has sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 57 mph for my area.

Thanks for posting that!

I'm curious now. Gonna do a "High Wind Warning" search on the CT Weather threads now.

I could be thinking on the CT coast into NYC and LI, they get high winds there more often than inland. For a place like Danbury, except during a thunderstorm, it would make more sense that the last HWW was for Sandy. I think for the coastal areas it was only in the winter that there has been one though.

December 2014 there were High Wind Warnings for Long Island, not CT I believe.

February 2015 there were High Wind Warnings in the area, I don't have it for CT, wonder if it was ever issued then.

January 27, 2013 they mentioned High Wind Warning might have to be issued. Jan 29, 2013 they issued a High Wind Watch. Got it. Jan 30, 2013 upgraded to High Wind Warning

Sept 18, 2012 we had a High Wind Warning

Ok, 7Wishes partially right, we had a couple since Sandy, not plenty.

I wonder how far back we have to go for one in the Spring...

Last Spring one I remember was the crazy wind storm of I think March 2010?

September 2012 was "pre-Sandy" and the Jan 30, 2013 was dropped right before the system hit at least in our area (so yes technically issued but not "experienced")

Oh shoot, good catch on pre Sandy.. So only 1 HWW since Sandy?

Here are the wind reports from that Jan 30, 2013 event. Fairfield Ludlowe High School roof blew off.
