Those mandates could cost taxpayers and businesses as much as $530 million in implementation and compliance costs. That's as bad or worse than the tax burden. For the state and city rev up economically, this has to end. They are killing small business in the state and city.

Hartford has done amazing well considering it is always swimming upstream with taxes and regulations restricting business at every turn. Imagine if they had a government and legislature that actually helped business.
We are getting off topic here but Rell did agree and sign off on borrowing money rather than bite the bullet and spend within the money we had. You are right about those current bills. Connecticut cannot afford them right now. Lets hope the legislature realizes that. Jay

It appears that the battle to redevelop the XL Center has begun with the Capital Region Development Authority looking to use eminent domain to acquire the XL Center atrium and adjacent office building. Jay

The CRDA is postponing its use of eminent domain for the XL Center because of Republican concerns. I am not sure what the Republicans are questioning. It was made clear in the reports on renovating the XL that they needed control of the atrium to make improvements and make the XL attractive to potential buyers. Jay

Officials say a new admissions levy is costing the XL Center shows and revenues at a crucial juncture | HartfordBusiness.com

New 10% tax is costing XL center events. This is insane at a time when the state is trying to find buyers for the arena. Raising taxes in this case actually decreases the amount of revenue going the state while crippling the XL Center's ability to be competitive with other venues.

The problem, Freimuth said, is that the tax curtails a show's potential profit margin "by such a degree that it results in the building losing actual events and the subsequent revenues."

Those lost concerts and shows could have amounted to as much as $650,000 in revenues for the arena spread across the current and coming fiscal year, Freimuth said.

It also means fewer hours worked by XL Center staff, less state tax revenue, and slower business for nearby parking-lot operators, restaurants and bars.

Whoever wrote this article is delusional. The admissions tax is just another word for sales tax. That tax just gets added on to the ticket prices and the customers are the ones paying the tax.

If a ticket costs $40 the tax would be $4. IF the promoters can't figure this out they are dumber than the author of this article.
