Historic district.

Then the Convention Center, shopping area, luxury apartments, and movie theater.

Then an education area with Trinity College, Capital Community College, and UCONN.

Have a paved bike circling the City.
They already have most of these things. Or is that your point?

I'd like to see it, but then that would sink Gampel Pavillion. Not sure they'd be willing to do that. The XL Center of course hosts many other events over the course of a year besides UConn basketball but Gampel's sole reason for existence is UConn b-ball games. You would end up with a very expensive practice facility.

Wasn't college basketball intended to actually be played on a college campus?

As I've written before, UConn should have been placed in downtown Hartford, not out in some cow pasture because a few kids were learning about cowz at an ag school. Ditto the med school. Put 24K undergrads, 8k grad students, and the med school in Hartford and you hit critical mass. Instead, there are a few thousand office workers and some new UConn-lite students living in the city center which is not remotely close to hitting critical mass.

Just be a good way to sell the XL Center. They could see about getting a buyer to rebuild it. Isn't there empty lots over by the Xfinity Center...Don't even have to use eminent domain, which the State should do away with on their level.

Then can connect Riverside Park to these 2 attractions.

It doesn’t work like that. UCONN developed into what it is because of Storrs and once it was established, placing it elsewhere didn’t make sense. Relocating a massive university to a quench the millennial thirst is silly. Urban popularity will fade.

That is correct. UConn was founded as an agricultural college I; the middle of farm lands and like many other major state universities, grew into what it is today. To address this popularity of urban areas, the suburban West Hartford branch of UConn was moved to downtown Hartford. It joined the university’s graduate business program at Constitution Plaza and UConn Law School in the West End. Jay

Yeah, but that's UConn-lite the commuter school, not the flagship university. Storrs should have remained the ag school all those years ago. Another brain dead Connecticut decision made years ago come back to haunt the state.

Then it was the brain dead decision of many, if not most, states. University of Rhode Island, University of Massachusetts, University of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania State and MANY others are in rural small towns. Jay

It wasn't a "brain dead Connecticut decision" at all. Perhaps read about the history of land grant colleges and the "Yale-Storrs Controversy" for a little background on why UCONN was placed where it is. After revoking Yale's land-grant status for the state of Connecticut, there was no chance that UCONN would- or should- have been placed in Hartford. As Jay said, there is a reason many land grant state universities are in rural areas.
