Lots of info here. Though I am confused about the tinming and amounts. Is it starting tonight and all day Thursday into Friday morning or is it light tomorrow and heavy in the evening into Friday morning? I'm trying to gage if I should drive in to work tomorrow and leave earlier and go in late Friday morning......or will it be bad enough tomorrow to warrant trying take off.

It should be fine as of right now. The action starts late thursday night into morning. Only talking about an inch or two of snow over 12 hours on Thursday during the day! That's nothing. Might even be breaks in the action. The big stuff comes in overnight hours when everyone is sleeping.

Have to watch radar. I learned my lesson that any snow falling in cold temps just creates a mess on roads. That means from 9-5. Especially after 4pm. If you got good tires stay as long as you can maybe leave early.

Remember, Salt doesn't work with cold temps so nothing will melt.

Max temps tomorrow low to mid 20s most of day.

My tires aren't great haha. They aren't snow tires. I drive a Kia Soul :-P My boss is pretty understanding and usually pretty lenient about closing the office in bad weather (especially because our Account Managers can mostly work from home if need be).

Here is what the guy on the Torrington group is saying:

my post from 1am my forecasts holds, this will not be a full fleged blizzard but a 30 hour event of varying intensity of snow, strong winds and most importantly bitter cold temperatures. Since temperatures will be so low roads will not be able to be treated and will not become wet after treatment. That said snow will break out around 2am Thursday AM and last till 8am Friday.3-4" by 5pm and another 5-8" by 8am Fri giving us a general 8-12" of dry fluffy wind blown snow with drifting. The nice part is that since the snow will be so light it should be much easier to shovel rather than 6-12" of heavy wet snow, but continued drifting may have to send plows to hilly areas several times thru Friday. So 8-12" still holds for me as it has done for four days now. Happy New Year and it's my honor to continue to give area residents forecasts thru 2014 when conditions warrant. Thank you everyone.

This is really a Catch 22 for Schools. Most are going back tomorrow after a 1 1/2 weeks off. If students are going to be dismissed early Thursday and then off on Friday it is really not going to be very productive time. There will likely be higher than normal student absences.

It's going to be a tough call for school systems to decide what to do. Hopefully the forecast will be clearer this evening since there still seems to be a debate as to whether or not large snows will materialize. Thursday seems to be the day with the greatest number of conflicting reports.

That would be ok with me. I'd probably leave at 4:00 or so and go in late on Friday......of course it actually plays out like that.

I have a feeling if its snowing tomorrow morning at 7am the kids will be off another 2 days.

If any of you are confused about the time, I sometimes use the main sources to get an idea.

Either NWS Hourly graph or TWC Hourly forecast. Exact times can change of course especially beginning and end.

Or my usual way is to just watch the radar. It will be coming from PA/NJ area first, then shift and come from NJ/NYC
