How long is the snow supposed to come down? We are near you in lower FFC. Is this supposed to keep up through the evening?

CLASSIC!!

Heavy snow stops and now it's back to sleet mix!! CLASSIC to a C

Basically the heavy snow was falling hard enough to get to the surface plus cooling the column of air coming down.., but once precip lightened up there isn't enough frozen stuff to overcome the layer that is warm up there! UGH

1.3" snow total all happened in just over an hour.

What I find amazing looking at the radars (for example, Cambium's post above) is how it looks like for the most part LI Sound and I-287 were the southern border for the heavy precip. The maps seem to show a blob that goes from that border north to southern VT/NH and east-west from offshore of Boston to central upstate NY (i.e. Syracuse). If I believe that map the immediate CT shore (as some noted) probably got spotty precip all day and Long Island, NYC, Philly (and even Westchester south of 287) seem to be getting "almost nothing" from this but it seems to pick up immediately once you get about 30 miles north of Manhattan!

Kind of reminds me in reverse of the storm back in (2010?) where Philly on south to DC got a blizzard, even Staten Island got 3-5" but north of that including all of CT got bupkus!

The precipitation gradients, and the temperature gradients, with this setup have been truly amazing.

I think it's finally lightening up over here in north central CT...but radar seems to be filling back in. My guess is we have 10" so far. Normally would be notable but pales in comparison to eastern MA. NWS BOX is now saying some areas in the south shore area will total 30"+ from this storm.

Yeah, the gradients are nuts. Islip hasnt seen snow

Many parts of MA already with 1-2 feet and still snowing. I seen a few comments saying they are tired of measuring now. Feels like its been snowing for weeks.

Northern 3 counties snow reports included in link. Don't forget to scroll down and see the MA totals. Sick. Been snowing a lot in recent years. Isn't that how ice ages start? Lol
