When Will the Polar Vortex Return?
Happened in Europe last year (or yr before) and just to clarify, the actual Vortex never leaves the pole, it's a "piece" that breaks off and heads in certain directions... this time is Canada and U.S. Last year was Europe. Yr before was Asia.

I think November was showing us signs of this happening with those arctic highs stronger and stronger pushing more south and south. The flow was just screaming.

Something tells me, this time it's not going to be Canada to Gulf coast. It could be angled towards the Mid Atlantic so we'll feel the effect more. Still so early for those details.

Model's starting to show a storm threat around the 15-17th. Looks cold enough for snow. We will see as we get closer.

That's the one I think is our next snow chance but not anything big. Not liking the pattern yet.

BDR is 3rd coldest January on record so far with a 22.3° mean. 1981 was 22.2°. 2004 was 21.9°.
BDL is 4th coldest on record with a 17.7° mean so far. 1918 was 17.4°, 1961 was 16.9°, 1970 was 16.8°.

Rain should never fall in January...it just should not happen. That is all.

Heading to work in a bit but keep an eye on those river gauges and flooded roads. Ground is frozen solid and nothing is getting absorbed. Add ice on the rivers and there's no where for the water to freely flow.

Current radar across the country. Some embedded downpours here in CT, T-Storms down south.

Temps in the 30s in northern CT, 40s south of 84. 50s on Long Island

Good link to keep.

River Forecast and observed conditions. Blue indicates ice. Red showing moderate flooding forecasted. As of 6am. I bet some more oranges show in in CT later.
