Saturday morning should be the coldest morning till next winter. I don't think we'll see single digits anymore...at least for southern half of CT...I lost count how many i have and that's just so crazy to say.

Here's what NAM has for Saturday morning lows.

If Central Park has single numbers Saturday morning, it would mean 8 days with single digit lows for the month. The last time that happened in February was in 1979, and before that in 1934 where the all time record of 11 days in a month occurred. Even 7 or more in ANY month (which they are at now) has only occurred 11 times in their entire 140+ year record, though 4 "recent" Januarys (1982, 1994, 2004 and 2005) have had 8 single-digit lows in the month.

If somehow in addition it can go below 10 before midnight tonight, it would make 9 days in the month, only 3 months period have achieved that (February in both 1934 and 1875, January 1920). This has been some month!

This month has been stat heaven.

Update For the CT coast (BDR)

Record straight days the minimum temps was below 26°.
2nd longest streak the max temps staying below 40°.
2nd longest 10"+ snowpack

Chances are medium to hit 40s on Monday. Very high to hit on Wednesday so that should stay locked at 2nd.

Snowpack of 10"+ needs to stay until Sunday morning to break! This morning would be #26 day!

At this point anything above freezing would be welcome.

And I've heard possibly RAIN with that too, combined that should do a number on the snowpack (though I doubt it will be completely gone yet, especially if we get some more snow Sunday night/Monday)

I just noticed that BDR is averaging 19.9 for the month! If it can stay cold enough the next two days that average will stay in the teens! That may be something we never see again (though it's a bit warmer, to use Central Park's really long record, such a feat only happened once, in Feb. 1934 at exactly 19.9; I imagine if BDR's records went before 1948 it would've been in the upper teens for that month (i.e. maybe 18.something).

But law of averages; when one area is the coldest ever.....

http://www.weather.com/news/climate/...cord-2014-2015

But if you believe this article, the regions might "flip flop" after mid-late March:

http://www.weather.com/news/news/wsi...-2013-20130226

Now regarding the first article, I will grant you Cambium in regards to the recent Joe Cioffi article you posted that I too am annoyed the Weather Channel is not showing a similar article about this month in the East, so I do agree with you and him there. In this article they do note it, but simply as "despite all the blizzards and record cold, it won't be the coldest winter ever because of an above normal December". I agree that it is at least equally historic to all the warmth in the West.

Speaking of averaging in the teens.... if that isn't rare enough...

While Hartford Area is having the coldest month on record since 1905, the Last time monthly average was in the teens was Jan 2004

To put into some perspective... Out of over 1300 months on record, only 17 of them have had an average temp in the teens. Not even common for northern CT.

Wow knew it would be somewhat rare there too but didn't realize it was THAT rare (though they seem to have had a bunch in the 70s)! Another interesting trend I notice is that unlike NYC, the average annual temperature has not really budged in the period you are showing, I see just as many upper 40s spread all around as low 50s (2012 is the only real warm anomoly that sticks out to me, and even then not by much).

I also just noticed that BDR hasn't had a high over 40 degrees this month (I know you mentioned that before). Has this happened in ANY past month there? (I read an article that said the high of 43 for this month for Central Park will be the lowest high for any month there since a 41 in Feb. of 1978, so I'm thinking maybe BDR didn't have a high over 40 then).

You are really working my brain and letting me find new things!

There's only been 2 months on record where a month never hit 40°+ at Bridgeport,CT (BDR). Feb 2015. Feb 1978.

Nice catch on BDR and the Year! Yes correct on NYC.
Last time a month had a max of less than 44° was Feb 1978. Only 7 times since 1872!!
The only times that happened in NYC in January was 1875 & 1881
