What are you talking about? Miami is not even near Gainesville so why bring it up?

I’m sorry but Gainesville is not that exciting. I’ve been there a number of times. Compared to New York City it is quiet. Not sure how anyone can say otherwise. Jay

Florida is huge compare to CT of course it going have Miami but CT is in better location access to world class cities like NYC and Boston.

I know via people close to me YNH may be affecting staff adversely soon. Like rest of hospitals, not doing well at this time.

Aren't they back up and running with procedures?

Or are people too freaked out to go to hospitals still?

Not in sufficient numbers. Project in the red a full year going forward.

many cost-cutting measures at play, including reducing leased space via wfh.

From what I hear from people I know involved in hospital management, there are several things going on.

First people are being a lot more cautious about very profitable elective surgeries so the numbers are down right now.

Then you have the added cost of dealing with Covid-19 between added measures required and what has been spent dealing with the height of the crisis.

Finally there was is still a question of reimbursement and who is paying for what and how much the Federal Government is willing to contribute.

All this has put a LOT of pressure on hospital finances so they are looking at ways to save money. I’ve heard complaints that hospitals are deliberately going lean on staffing to cut costs. Jay

The communications went into quite a bit of detail, several methods of mass cost-cutting, and they are hoping to not affect staff too much. Pre covid they were the sole health care provider in the state in the black.

Hopefully, YNH will implement some of the ideas that they did at Mass General Brigham here in Boston. They lost $800 million in revenue through May. 50K of their 78K employees are affected by:

- contribution to retirement plans and merit increases for workers earning over $26.50/hour suspended through June 2021
- top execs have pay cut 25% through June 2021
- other execs will pay pay cut 5-20% through June 2021
- elimination of new construction programs.

Top execs took the biggest hit while preserving the pay and benefits of the lowest rung employees who are often the backbone of an organization.

Funny how six months ago we were talking about the albatross that downtown Stamford was becoming.....

From my perspective as a patient, it is the front line providers- doctors, nurses- who are the backbone of a hospital. Are the lower paid staff important. Yes, of course but I want morale as high or higher for the folks actually treating me as I do for the people cleaning the floors.
