This isn't development related, but is Greenville facing a crime wave right now or something? The Daily Reflector as of today is filled with shootings ranging from a teen attempting to kill a 14-yo to two men shot in the leg at a hotel.

Ongoing projects

Rouse said ongoing projects for Pitt County and Greenville include the 12-mile Southwest Bypass project that will connect U.S. 264 just west of Greenville to N.C. 11 south of Ayden. Design will be complete in September, with right-of-way acquisition completed shortly thereafter.

The contract was awarded to Barnhill Construction, with work to start in March and end in 2019, Rouse said.

The multi-lane urban-situated 10th Street Connector project will connect Memorial Drive at Stantonsburg Road in Greenville’s medical district with the East Carolina University east campus at Evans and 10th streets. Right-of-way acquisition and utility work are complete. Construction will begin in the fall and be completed in 2018, Rouse said.

Right-of-way acquisition for the Evans Street-Old Tar Road widening project, funded by the state’s STI system, will begin in 2017, Rouse said. Construction will begin in 2019.

The Dickinson Avenue modernization project will upgrade the road from Memorial Drive to Reade Circle in downtown Greenville. The project is not funded by the STI, but is part of Gov. Pat McCrory’s bond proposal, Rouse said.

A bill is working its way through Congress to apply “Future Interstate” status to the U.S. 64/N.C. 17 corridor from Raleigh to the Hampton Roads/Tidewater area of Virginia and the nearby port of Norfolk, Rouse said. It eventually could become Interstate 44, he said.
5 years from now, things will be so different in DT Greenville!

Great post MB...I-44 even though not directly going through Greenville would be a help to the region as a whole...especially the North Greenville industrial area and its future prospects. When the surveys ask how far are you from interstate access, they can answer 9-10 miles (to Bethel) instead of 30-35 miles to I-95.

Looks like construction is behind schedule on the 10th St connector, probably because of design...believe the bids originally were supposed to go out in December 2014 with work to start by the summer.

Taft-Ward announce new student housing

The Daily Reflector

Key points:

A $54 million new student housing development is coming to Greenville, developers announced Wednesday.

The tower will contain 20,000 square feet of retail, a 700-car parking deck, courtyards, resort-style pool, outdoor amenity center, state-of-the-art fitness center and a roof-top sky-view terrace. The community will comprise 16 floor plans with studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom units.

The community will capitalize on the construction of the $22 million 10th Street Connector project and will be directly across the street from the recently announced $122 million ECU Student Union scheduled to break ground this summer.
