Of course I've never been to any of these, but I would assume these would be in the top 10 (not ranked)...
Las Vegas
New York
Atlantic City
Memphis
Miami
Los Angeles
San Francisco
Boston
Chicago
Seattle
What would your top 10 be?
Have been to all except Seattle... have spent more than a few weeks worth of time in each except Memphis...
I would disagree and throw out Memphis (unless you like country, bluegrass or dirty south rap) and Atlantic City (unless you are a gambler or like to go to guido clubs)
I would add Austin, DC, I also might scratch a few others like Seattle and throw in New Orleans ....that is just ME though.
Honestly though it is all about what you are into, if you are into bars, some cities you aren't going to like, if you are into good clubs, vice versa. If you are into country, hip hop, house, rock, punk, blues, jazz... going to be different on where you rank them. It is all pretty subjective and some cities could be removed entirely for not being well rounded. Example, I would never go to a club "club rap" or top 40 dance tracks...but, many clubs that people enjoy obviously do this, maybe even most of them these days.
Only cities that offer up about everything and good at everything are Chicago NYC and LA, the others more or less cater to a handful of categories, and severely lack in others.
Dallas, Atlanta and Charlotte will fit in on several as well and deserve honorable mention, and if you are already spending money flying to those cities already large distances... I would suggest looking at cities not in the U.S. border as well... Cancun, San Juan, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal all offer up good night life and could arguably throw 5 of those cities off the list imo...
1. Las Vegas
2. Miami
3. NYC
4. LA
5. DC
6. Chicago
7. Milwaukee
8. San Francisco
9. Boston
10. Seattle
I honestly think LA is a bit overrated and overpriced. Just not a huge fan. DC was a lot of fun last time I was there. It's a lot busier and crazier than I thought it would be. Milwaukee is VERY underrated in my opinion. It's know as "America's Drunkest City". There are bars and clubs everywhere. Like others have stated, it doesn't have the quantity of Chicago, but has very similar quality.

Vegas blows everything else out of the water...every type of bar imaginable, and many of them open 24/7.
I'm not into clubs, so Miami imo is a bit over-rated.
NY, Chicago and Boston are kind of similar, as each neighborhood has at least 1 local tavern, plus a few more concentrated bar areas.
Madison has the most bars & restaurants per capita, but too many of them cater to the college crowd.
After Vegas, you can make an argument for any city that has a diverse bar culture spread throughout the city, with bars (not just clubs) open til at least 4am on weekends.
I know this a General US board, but I am going to throw in a couple of the international cities I have been to as well.
1. Las Vegas
2. Barcelona
3. Miami
4. NYC
5. Frankfurt
6. Kingston/Negril
7. LA
8. Lisbon
9. Paris
10. Atlanta
