We all know the best and the worst now but what are the cities that you don't hear of that have a great night life or you were surprised when you went there how good their night life was?

Milwaukee is my number 1, after having been all over the us and coming back to Milwaukee I was surprised on how nice and upscale Milwaukee was compared to cities of it's size.

I would really put Milwaukee with Chicago in terms of quality of nightlife not quantity obviously. In the summer Milwaukee with all the rooftop decks and out door patios and just the sheer amount of entertainment districts for a city it's size 2,000,000 is great. A lot of our restaurants have been opened by people relocating or opening up second restaurants or bars in Milwaukee from Chicago. We have a ton of Chicago style dining with windows and doors wide open in the front of the restaurants and lounges.

Providence, RI. You would think for a smaller city the nightlife would be bland. However, MANY people from metro boston make the trip down to Providence regularly for the better/cheaper nightlife. Providence is full of bars, clubs, after hour clubs, restaurants many of which is in walking distance. The city is also full of college students, artists, hipsters and gays. I can attest that the gay scene offers more bars/clubs/bathhouses in close proximity than does Boston. And draws huge gay crowds on weekends. Providence also is the Red-light city for New England which draws tons around for the Strip clubs and other adult-themed activities. Newports also another summer hotspot.

I have heard the same thing also about Providence! I have had nothing but compliments about Milwaukee's nightlife from Chicagoans and we all know how hard they are to please!

I agree with Milwaukee. Cleveland Also. Although it helps if you go out party in these cities in the summer.

San Juan definitely is underrated. I would go there over Vegas in a heart beat. World class casinos, beautiful beaches, beautiful women, actual culture, rain forest, in a different country for the same price round trip if you are on the east coast of the country, fishing excursions, rum factories, etc. etc.
When I was there though I thought there was a lot more NON U.S. foreign tourists than I see in Vegas, plenty high rollers from Europe and Asia...
