I currently live in Atlanta. I agree it’s nightlife is not as concentrated and robust as it was in the late 90’s early 2000’s but despite that there’s still a lot to do here. Mind you it’s a lot more spread out and you actually have to drive to most places.

I find it meets the needs I look for regarding it’s nightlife scene although it would be great if it had something similar to Broadway in Nashville or 6th Street in Austin. My list is subject to change as well once I visit Austin and Vegas later this year. Need to see them again with fresh eyes as it’s been a while.

Agree to disagree about this. I can see New Orleans as top 5 for like a bachelor party or something like that but for nightlife as a local that's a bit high in my opinion. But, it's a fun city for sure.
But you don't have experience as a local though.
You know more about Austin than New Orleans, so in your head it has way more. In reality it doesn't.

Be reasonable, everyone would probably agree it's about the top 10. That is a good spot. Saying New Orleans ranks higher for nightlife isn't a knock.

A quickly Google search for best cities for nightlife puts Austin in the top 10 for just about all of them. But New Orleans is also top 5 in all of them.

Austin wasn't in this one

It tends to back up everyone else's person list that New Orleans is about top 5, while Austin is about top 10ish.
Austin kills for live music, but New Orleans is one big party in all forms. Night and Day.

Atlanta is awesome for more more intimate venues like lounges and bars.

Lmao so you are saying my original post that said "Austin being in back of the top 10 is deserved" is correct? Glad we had this back and forth discussion to confirm that.

For me, Bourbon is the "wow" in New Orleans. Frenchman and the like is neat but not really anything to write home about. I think NOLA as a top 5 tourist nightlife place makes sense on Bourbon alone (kind of like Vegas with the strip). In my visits there I haven't seen what's so great about the off-bourbon parts that locals rave about, and I stand by my statement that Austin after Dirty 6 has a lot more going on than New Orleans after Bourbon. but, obviously we are each more familiar with one city than the other.

Fwiw personally I like New Orleans in the day time more than at night. It's a beautiful city and I also love the food. I do tend to visit in the winter though!

This is the correct answer.

But I think if you were to add another category for most well-rounded in terms of variety and demographics and accessibility then NYC and Chicago would be on that list alone. Not surprisingly I think these are the two best cities in the country for nightlife (although I do love NOLA and Nashville too).

Seattle has great nightlife. I think it might have a reputation of not? Like it's not NYC, and it doesn't have an endless selection like L.A. or Chicago.. but it does have variety and several places open until 4 am. Capitol Hill, SODO, Fremont, Belltown all great spots with lots of activity. I think it's nightlife is underrated. This is also coming from someone who has explored the nightlife scenes in most major U.S. cities and used to work in nightlife.
