Nashville's nightlife seems more tourist-centric. Austin is a popular place to fly in to party for a weekend but it doesn't have anything like the whole honky tonk country gimmick going on in Nashville. It's just a city with a ton of people in the 20-35 age bracket with disposable income, and the nightlife districts are laid out such that you can walk and scooter between them.

That’s of course if you only venture on Broadway(which ironically has hip hop clubs as well). Nashville also has the Gulch, Midtown, Five Points in East Nashville and Germantown. Don’t let the media fool you. Most locals don’t even venture towards Broadway. There’s more to the city’s nightlife than country music and honky tonks.

Yeah. People that think that Nashville's nightlife starts and ends with country haven't been (recently at least). It maintains an overall country heritage and style but that's for show.
I agree, that's why I think Austin does belong in or just outside of the top 10 in this department. Even many of the much larger, vastly more urban cities in the country don't match the walkability of Austin's nightlife. (See DC or Boston for example). Hell, even NYC feels a bit more spread out to me just because the land use is so much more mixed.

Outside of Broadway, the city as a whole feels kind of dead to me. Maybe I'm missing something...

I can get onboard with this ideology, and do agree that Austin’s dense pockets of nightlife do make it more fun or exciting than some other cities. I just wish - less 6th st- those pockets or streets were larger. But to the point, I want to bounce around during a night out, that’s absolutely crucial for me and is the single biggest miss in a city like Boston where you can only do that in a select few areas like Fenway and Seaport.
Compare that to another legacy city like Chicago, which has major pockets and intersections full of nightlife, which makes for a very easy night out. It’s not “let’s go to this particular bar or bars”, it’s “let’s go to this particular part of the city”. West loop, Viagra Triangle, Boys Town, Old Town, Wicker Park, Hubbard Ave., N. Lincoln / Lincoln Park. You know there are 20+ spots to choose from in any walkable node.

Nashville nightlife is not diverse enough to be thought about as a top 10. It just isn't!

I wouldn’t say that Nashville’s nightlife isn’t diverse as much as not being on the scale of much larger cities. The main issue is Nashville built it’s brand by promoting country music on Broadway, so tourists visit Nashville not expecting to leave the Broadway/Downtown area. Tourists rarely venture into other neighborhoods especially if they’re staying in a hotel downtown. Definitely don’t think I’d rate it top 10 but I can’t think of too many cities Nashville’s size outside of New Orleans and Austin that has more nightlife.
