Yea, as if ...

Then once, in Lebanon, I got pulled over for barely going over the 55 mph speed limit on SR48 (maybe 61 or 62) and the cop asked me where I was coming from and going to. I said I'm coming from Centerville and going to Cincinnati. He said, "well, I don't know how they drive up there in Centerville or in Cincinnati, but here we don't drive like that."

I was incredulous on both accounts. I so much wanted to snap back at those idiotic comments but politely refrained. I got the ticket in Cheyenne and was given a warning in Lebanon.
I know, he was being pretty snarky. I also know he knew he was flying up that street and didn't want to look bad. Cops down south like to hide, and I don't like that. When I lived in Florida, and because I am from NE Ohio, I take 95 all the time and they are bad in states like Georgia where they like to hide in the trees that divide the north/south lanes of the interstate. Ohio cops have their days, but my ticket from the state highway patrol in Ohio was $100 for doing 19 over, compared to my stop sign incident.

So to the OP for the record, Ohio cops are not allowed to hide. I remember driving up 71 from Cincinnati and seeing the SHP sitting on the side of the road with their lights on, no one pulled over, just to let you know they are there. It's always interesting though, because 71 is heavy traffic most of the day from SW Ohio to NE Ohio, and all the sudden you see 500 brake lights in front of you instantly turn on. Trust me people, if he wanted to get you that bad, hitting your brakes does nothing.

Now you are saying the same thing I have been saying all along, except I am speaking from first hand experience of actually having a child in CPS. Not from backyard fence sessions, or pontificating from out in Mason.
At least kjbrill is realistic and will often praise the city, as evidenced by his World Choir Games posts and his occasional support of many of the developments going on right now. SP, on the other hand, is always abrasive, bitter and negative in her comments in a very suspicious-of-everything way. You really have to take what she says with a rather large grain of salt.

Ya, me and brill do our share of bickering but I have a lot of respect for him, his age and experience. We are both cantankerous, but that's not a bad thing.

It strikes me as kind of odd that you cited those exact same kind of "backyard fence sessions" as a way that parents new to the area could get help from those with more experience about things like the school system. Frankly, I'm more willing to place credibility in the opinions of people I know well--like I do these neighbors--than I am somebody like you on an internet discussion group.

Yeah, I know you're all thrilled to have a kid attending SCPA, and somehow extrapolate from that that everybody should navigate the rocky shoals of the CPS system. I hope your kid comes out of there with such top-notch skills they can make a living in the performing arts. I know from experience how many are called and how few are chosen. For the vast majority of parents, such a goal is simply not realistic. So recognize that you're an exceptional case.

^^ Oh, lecture me on music? I am a lead guitarist who attended Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA and has played extensively in LA and New York. I have over 27 years experience in music. From time to time I pick up with local talent in the Cincinnati area and do shows as well. I know first hand how to have several irons in the fire, making money to have a comfortable living while still being a musician.

And for your information, SCPA centers on performing arts but emphasizes attending college and has an exceptionally high college entrance rate.

Save your putrid negativity for someone else.

I got it, thank you. Just been busy and haven't been able to respond. I grew up in WPB (actually Palm Beach Gardens) until I went to college. Florida isn't for me as well. You provided some great information. I am looking forward to coming that way and visiting the area. Gotta get back to work! Have a great day!

To give the OP an example of an excellent school that accepts kids city wide and not just the neighborhood, there is Kilgour. And it's not a magnet school, for whatever that matters.

Kilgour School

I would go to the Brass Ring in Palm Beach Gardens all the time, best wings in the world. Glad the information I provided was helpful, like I said, keep asking away if you need any help.
