There is no one correct answer...cause it's brought on in each by different reasons...
You have some millionares who are depressed, then you have some poor people who are as happy and vibrant as can be.
Sometimes it's brought own by feeling there's nothing else to anticipate in life...
Feeling hopeless, that others ill wishes of you control your life.
I can see where the promises of Jesus could help some over come that...particular themes in the bible can make one feel cheerful and hopeful, can once again give one a sense of 'future'.
But beyond that initial 'happy feeling'...you will have to take steps to lift yourself up and out...
Depression can be as simple as a temporary emotion, to as complex as a real, biologically based disorder of the nervous system. Sometimes it needs real medical help to treat, as any other medical problem would.
One can still believe in Jesus, and still have depressing things happen to them thus effect their mood...Jesus is not the 'cure' all for all earthly issues...
I could just focus on a brand new Porche over and over again...and my mood will get better...
Whether focusing on Jesus or a brand new porsche, all that is is changing the focus from yourself to something external...
Many believe in Jesus, but are still depressed about maybe being unemployed or loosing their spouse to divorce...
It's good to have a wide range of emotions...otherwise we'de be hardwired like a insect...
