We love Him because He first loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
We saw him with our very own eyes. We gazed upon him and heard him speak. Our hands actually touched him, the one who was from the beginning, the Living Expression of God. God loves His creation, the world.
So that is God loving "us" as in us in general.
