Yes I know they do but im talking about the downtown area, Near West Side and North Side area like Lincoln Park, Wicker Park and other areas. Obviously there are areas still like that but I was focusing more on the white population. Yuppies dont like to have a lot of kids. Blue collar working class whites have been largely pushed out of the city.

Chicago is more than downtown,the now "hip/trendy" north side areas,the near west side,and the near south side.

Without the non-yuppies in Chicago there would be no Chicago.

Ok your trying to be very argumentative. You obviously know what I am talking about. I live on the NW Side so I know. I am in a blue collar profession so I know. I dont know if you know this but areas like Taylor St. on the west side and areas like Lincoln Square on the northside use to be different types of neighborhoods. I know because my parents of from both of these areas so I have stayed there extended periods of time. They are yuppies. In the 50s Taylor street was packing families into those flats. Same with Lincoln square. Now it is all yuppies who live by them selves. Also, I dont know if you have been to Biridgeport lately but it is turning yuppie really quick. There is the reason there were over 2 million whites in Chicago in the 60s and now less then a million now.

i have to agree, the mayor is knocking down CHICAGO HOUSING AUTHORITY homes like cabrini green, robert taylor, and now they wanna knock down the homes on 43rd and cicero, trying to beutify the area
now what happens is people in the suburbs are just looking to make a quick buck, so in return they are just selling homes to anyone before the value of the area goes down, as well as landlords now in the burbs are excepting more section 8 housing voutures, i remember back in 96 when we were in the burbs it was VERY rare to see someone with section 8 in OAK LAWN, BURBANK, HOMETOWN, EVERGREEN PARK, ALSIP, JUSTICE, but i guess times are changing and many people that moved to the suburbs may just move back to the city for the reason that they left is now going to plague their town.

I don't think we'll reach 3 million people in the near future (assuming we're not there now with illegal immigrants). But it's possible in the long term, I suppose.

I don't think Chicago will ever been "overwhelmingly Hispanic". I think immigration from Latin America will eventually start to decrease.

Chicago has a very strange population trend, it has gone up and down in a matter of just years. I know in the 1980's the city took a huge population hit, I believe the city shrunk about 11%. In the 1990's the city's population shrank, but not to badly. And now in the last few years I believe that the city's population has risen something like 0.3% or something. Getting back over 3 Million? I really do not know, it could but I don't think that it will be there anytime soon because it is not growing nearly as fast as it was in the early 20th century when the city raised to it's national status.

According to the 2000 census Chicago was 42% White. While the Hispanic population was at 26% I believe that the Hispanic population in the city will just continue to grow, as it has been doing in every single city of the U.S.

According to census estimates, Chicago was shrinking in populaton during the 1990s. Then the census of 2000 showed an increase in population. So far, the census estimates again show a decrease in population. We'll have to wai until the 2010 census to see if the estimates are wrong or not.
