I take the brown line from Belmont into work every day and the red line platform heading into the Loop is packed with commuters nearly every morning. Things are getting back to normal.

Definitely seeing more and more people on CTA. Just the last few weeks the train has gotten more crowded. It feels so good to have life almost completely back to normal

I've been taking it lately. Good seeing more normal people balancing the lunatics.

By the fall it will be like it never happened. I've been talking to more and more people about this work from home thing and almost nobody is going to be doing it.

The CTA is now jam-packed. Only a handful of employers will continue to allow people to work remotely. I predict people will look for jobs at employers that allow remote workdays.

I ride a bike or walk most of the time these days, but I rode the Red and Brown Lines one the Federal holiday July 5th. I went between River North and Uptown to visit a friend. The northbound Brown Line at about 9am was nearly deserted. The northbound Red at 9:15am was not busy but not deserted. On the way home, though, the Red Line at 11:30am was standing room only south of the Sheridan station and the Cubs didn't appear to be in town. Brown south from Fullerton was almost standing room only, too.

One anecdote: the friend rode back south with me, at one point trying to sing on a crowded train, irritating a man who asked him repeatedly to stop (the friend is disabled and has some days that are more disordered than others). After 4-5 rounds of asking him to stop, the irritated guy told him if he didn't stop that lead would be thrown at him (I.e. he'd shoot him).

My friend moved to the other end of the train car and stopped singing, and I eyed Mr Lead, gently telling him his threat was too strong while also gauging whether he really did have a gun - in my opinion, he did not, as he had very fitted clothes. A little adventure on the Red Line.

My evening commute from the western suburbs to the City on I-290 went from 20 minutes to 1+ hour. It's been that way for over a couple months now, so this isn't a flash in the pan or people just blowing off steam by driving somewhere. I wonder what percentage of those who predicted the "very concept of work will be fundamentally changed" by the COVID flu virus bought a lot of dot.com stocks back in the day. I bet it's significant!

"Past performance does not guarantee future results"

It's a product of too much thinking in the moment.

It's like landing in Las Vegas for the first time in your life during a monsoon and getting the idea that it's a rainy place all the time. On the longer timeline, the pandemic employment arrangement is a short-term anomaly.

"CTA ridership is up more than 20% since May 1 as Chicagoans return to trains and buses, and it continues to grow steadily, officials say."
