Only one poster is the problem child here.

And we all know who he is...

Sorry Iowa boy, but stop trying to act too cool for school.
Why do people always throw in the "Iowa boy" to assumingly discredit whatever that person is saying? I grew up in Iowa for 22 years, very proud of it. I've been in Chicago for over 12 years though living from Logan Square to Uptown to Lakeview, working downtown and car free for 10 years. I don't understand how some people try to throw the fact a person isn't from the area as if that means they don't know what they're talking about.

I've found over the past 12 years that I've traveled around a LOT more of the city and end up knowing a lot more about Chicago, it's past, troubles, infrastructure and the people than almost any of my friends who grew up out in the burbs. I find even people who grew up in the city can very easily be quite ignorant about the entire rest of the city because it's doesn't pertain to their little neck of the woods. It's more about the individual wanting to know how their city and how it works and functions than the simple act of growing up in Cook County. Some of my most ignorant friends who live in the city all grew up in the suburbs "eww, you're riding the train" "what's the interstate that goes to Midway?" "I'm not going all the way to the south side, I'll get shot" (Hyde Park was my destination).

Honestly Chicago is a hard place to typecast someone because the people who grew up in the city is separated quite a bit just based on simple demographics. Most of Chicagoland's population aged 18-40, which is the biggest age group on this site, who grew up in the city of Chicago will be African American or Hispanic. I almost think all the white people who grew up in the burbs from 1960-1995 probably have a more jaded and incorrect impression of the city than someone who came with no existing opinions.

The Chicago subforum has been overrun with right leaning political prognosticators and crime obsessed racists.

Not all of us are that way Ronnie. I know it's hard to believe, but trust me on this. Those of us that don't like the midwest or Chicago have to deal with the people that are hear in additional to being stereotyped by people that don't live in the region. Just look at how sensitive they get about criticism. Can you imagine living around people like this on a day to day basis?

What should they say? "Yes, we live in a hell hole where we have to dodge bullets every day." And I doubt most people have to hear this type of criticism of their city every day.

You seem to be a pretty narrow-minded fellow. I'm not sure what makes you so 'cool and 'special'. Care to enlighten the rest of us?

I understand your point, but all I am saying is they don't have to jump all over someone else that doesn't see the city as they do. How anyone with a heart and brain can live in Chicago and say "it's a fine world class city that's superior to all other cities except New York," is absurd. I honestly view Chicago as the worse city in the midwest. The people are very rude and way too arrogant.
