Oh I forgot one other reason: Higher Level Education. University of Chicago is ranked as the 8th best university in the entire world, while Northwestern (well technically in Evanston, the next city north of Chicago, but has some offices in town) is 27th

It is considered to be an international leader in it's primary industries - gambling and entertainment.

First of all, it's not considered #1 in either thing. It's basically tied with Macau now, and entertainment in Vegas? No, it's not the leader in that either. It's good, but not the leader. NYC, London, and Tokyo are better for entertainment.

Even if it was, how does that make it world class city? Their economy is hardly diversified or very large for that matter, they have no high world class higher education institutions (UNLV is okay but it's a far cry from an Ivy League/Cal Tech/U of Chicago calibur school), their food scene isn't even top 3 in the US, they have no professional sports, they hardly have a way to get around the city in anything other than a private vehicle, they hardly offer any sort of touristic diversification outside of the casinos/hotels/resorts.

I fail to see how that is even close to world class. They have decent food, good casinos, and good entertainment. I guess in that spirit, we better call Beirut world class because their clubs and bars are insane too.

Please show me evidence of Vegas' world class economy, higher education, museums, transportation, etc.

Vegas is a place mainly visited by fools easily parted with their money.

CHicago is generally considered a 2nd tier global city, behind New York, and sometimes behind Los Angeles, but consistently in the top 10. Here is a link to one :

Is that why the Mormons founded the town?

and your point is what? It still doesn't take away from the fact that Vegas is not a world class city.

What is with certain people on this thread who think that when Harrier asks a question he is "making a point"?

Harrier asks what makes Chicago a world class city - and he is met with defensiveness.

He asks a question about the founding of Las Vegas and instead of receiving an answer, is challenged.

Is this behavior a Chicago trait or something?

Because Harrier should know that this isn't about who founded what city. Right now it's about being world class. Those two messages were a derail. I provided you with a list of reasons why Chicago is world class. You provided me with two, which are not even true. So please, show me evidence of Las Vegas' awesome and diversified economy, their awesome museums/historical institutions, their world class higher education and medical institutions, their rankings for food around the world? Doesn't exist too much.

Nobody is getting "defensive" about it. The pure fact is that Harrier has never been to Chicago so Harrier has no room to speak about Chicago other than some basic things.
