Then by that standard - Las Vegas qualifies as being world class.

No it doesn't.

Again, what else does Las Vegas have that makes it world class? Please cite examples of its diverse economy? Please cite examples of its world class higher education and medical institutions? Please cite examples of its diversified quality of life - i.e. urban and suburban life? Please cite examples of Las Vegas' fine museums?

To say that Chicago is not world class and Vegas is, is one of the most asinine things I've ever heard. The pure fact that you bring up "rail hub" means you have no idea of anything about Chicago. If you wanted to sound like you knew what you were talking about, you would have mentioned the fact that Chicago has the 2nd largest financial sector in the US of any MSA and has the largest options exchange in the entire country.

What is Chicago the international center of - what makes it #1?

Los Angeles? Movies.

New York? Finance and business.

Washington? Capitol of a major world player.

Vienna? Music.

Paris? Art.

London? Theatre.

See what Harrier is getting at?

There should only be a few cites that can call themselves world class.

Hmm, it was once world famous for the meat-packing industry and a railroad hub. Carl Sandburg's poem about Chicago talked about how it isn't a one-industry city per se, that it's known for many things. I don't think that should disqualify Chicago from being a world-class city.

Are you saying that Las Vegas is not "A leader" in ****?

Or are you backtracking from your own standard for a world class city?

Where do people dream about making it big in the finance world and getting a seat on an exchange floor?

Chicago or New York?

* List of companies in the Chicago metropolitan area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
* Category:Companies based in Las Vegas, Nevada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
* Category:Companies based in Miami, Florida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How do any of these compete with Chicago? Seriously?

Stop going on a tangent. Nobody ever brought up NYC, and Chicago is #2 to NYC in the US in this. I'm establishing things that you don't know about Chicago that you should. All you're doing is saying that Miami and Vegas are world class for basically not many reasons. Again, you keep ducking my questions. I'd appreciate it if you answered me.

Lol, maybe I was thinking about it from an MSA & GDP perspective. Houston's city center may not be world class, but the metro area has significant economic output. For that matter, I would actually throw Miami into the list (but not Las Vegas), for reasons that you yourself mentioned. It is the port of entry to Latin America and significant business is conducted there with Latin America. Boston has a decent city center, an insane amount of history, some of USA's top centers of higher education, as well as a thriving pharmaceutical industry & located in America's powerful Northeast Corridor. So it is technically part of the "megalopolis" out there. Chicago is not unfortunately. Therefore, you can laugh all you want, but even though it's a smaller city, I'd say that should get thrown into the list.

I agree with this. Miami maybe, but not Vegas. Houston to me is meh, maybe in 20 years. Boston has a larger case for it but to me it's still on the edge.

Las Vegas is world-class in the respect people from across the world want to say they've been there.

I'm not sure the same applies to Chicago, although it's a much more major city.
