A vehicle with no immediate means of escape is the perfect place to be attacked by someone who knows you can't protect yourself. Allowing people to defend themselves and making it known that people are capable reduces the likelihood of conflict, not the other way around.

You must not ride the red line.

I ride the red line everyday, I don't follow.

So you are more afraid of a never-felon, trained, CCW holder that might save your life, than some of the whackos on the Red line?

I don't know a single person in Chicago who's ever even talked about owning a gun and they certainly aren't walking around with knives.

this is weird.. when i heard the news on tv tonight, that this will be law in 6 hours, i had trepidation. This is something new and I am not sure what will happen. Other places have had the right to own and carry a gun around, but they are used to it, not sure what will happen in chicago. this is all new to us. We'll have to wait and see and no I'm not going to walk around paranoid, but this is a new thing, not sure how it will pan out.

I also was thinking this - maybe now the people in various neighborhoods will have some of their own protection if some thug comes thru their window and decides to mess with them. Maybe the thugs will think twice when granny pulls out her pistol. Or when a mother and her kid are in the park and they see a drive by. Mommie pulls out her gun and BAM! problem solved.

I don't think the general public should have access to hand guns regardless of where they live. That's what the police are for - to serve and protect. The problem is the police are not doing their job properly.

I know of many situations where people who buy legal hand guns, sell them for cash, and then report them as stolen. That's just one example of how these guns get into the wrong hands. The only way to stop this activity is to stop selling hand guns to the general public.

The only one on the streets who needs a hand gun is law enforcement. Period!

Very little will happen. Eventually people will get licenses, start to carry. You won't know. Someone moron will drop his gun or accidentally expose it and people will FLIP out, the media will run wild with it and make it out to be like he executed 10 children in public. That will pass, time will go by and then someone will lawfully defend themselves with a firearm and it'll be a Zimmerman/Martin trial all over again but here in IL. Except here, they will probably go to prison. Hopefully not. The local liberals and the media will do everything to demonize lawful personal protection. Way on down the road after a few more would be victims defend themselves word will get around that you can't run around Chicago and do whatever you want, to whomever you want without repercussion. This could be 10 years from now. But it's a start.

Great idea. If we could all have a personal body guard at all times that would be just fantastic. At least that's how it works for the very wealthy and politically connected anti-2nd amendment crowd. They would *never* carry a firearm. But their bodyguard has 2 and one in the trunk.

so what do you propose people do when confronted by someone who wants to do them harm? Call the police and hope that their response time is fast enough?

Good luck with that.

Congrats to IL in joining the 21st century, where responsible citizens are allowed the means to defend themselves

I see what you're saying. But, no one, and no system, can stop all crime. With that said, I believe society [as a whole] would be much safer if I get hit on the head and robbed for a hundred dollars, than it would be if I was hit on the head and robbed for a 9mm. That's all I'm saying.
