A fellow poster (the illustrious "homer" Steve-O) started a thread today that got me thinking.

All of us have likes and dislikes in Chicagoland, and we're a passionate people--whether it's about sports teams, the traffic, "dibs", or whether Chicago culture does indeed stop just north of the Eisenhower

But I think all of us can agree that we're truly blessed to have some of the best food anywhere. We're a city of immigrants, many of whom brought their wonderful home cooking secrets from the homeland. It became such a competitive market that only the best restaurants can survive here, and I personally believe that is why we have such great food.

So with that in mind, for the foreseeable future (or at least until I run out of ideas (or get yelled at by the senior mods)), I am going to start a thread for "Best (blank)" in Chicagoland (so burbs included). We'll have a new one starting Monday every week. You can only choose one, and of course backing up why you like it is encouraged. If anything, it will be a great resource for visitors and people who just moved here.

I will not abuse my power and subliminally influence anybody, so I'll post my pick just before I start the new thread. Fire away!

(and I will sticky only the new thread up each week)

Jimmy's Red Hots on Grand and Pulaski. We were just there and it is how I think a Chicago dog should be.

For Best Overall Hot Dog - Jeff's Hot Dogs @~Cicero & Irving are just dang good, nothing fancy (no foe grass here folks).

For Best Gourmet Dog - Hot Dougs on California you can spend $10.00 on one hot dog here and you will say that was worth it!

For Best Maxwell St Dog - Express Grill on Roosevelt and Union (follow the grilled onion smell) Not only will you get a great hot dog, you can also buy a hubcap, a porno dvd, a bicycle and a city sticker all at 1:30 in the morning.

For best ambiance hot dog stand - tossup between superdawg on Kimball and Janson's Drive In on 99th and Western. Both have been featured in movies and tv and are trip back into time.

I gotta go with Superdawg! Been going there since I was a kid. Great shakes too, but that's a whole different thread.

Hey!

I resemble that remark!

Best dogs? Man, Im not from the city so we dont get as much variety as you guys, so I have yet to experience most hot dog stands. So far my fave remains either Portillos or Scooby's.
