Ahem, getting back on topic...

+1 for Budacki's. Good and cheap! I will also suggest the Outdoor Grill on that little stretch of Milwaukee Ave. in between Belmont & Pulaski. Both joints have good food made by people who give a damn!

Hasty Tasty on Milwaukee was the bomb! I remember the little toys they gave away. A true meal on a bun!

You can't beat Gene & Judes value for your dollar. Their fries are especially tasty.

Superdawg has juicy, large dogs and tangy "radioactive" neon relish, but is a little bit pricey. Love their chocolate "Supershakes", though.

Sammy's, on Division. At least, back around 1965. I haven't been there lately.

Wow! They're still around. And they've vastly expanded the menu ... used to be red hots only!

It's not hard to make a good Chicago dog; what's surprising is that so many places screw it up. All the ingredients are factory made so all the stand has to do is layer the ingredients, in the right proportions, so that every bite has a little of everything. I just wish more places took proper care in assembly instead of slopping everything on so it falls apart.

OK, bitching over. For a fully loaded dog with everything, Poochie's in Skokie is the best I've had. As a bonus, they have a real charcoal grill which turns out good burgers and char salami sandwiches. Skip the Italian beef here though.

For a scaled-down hot dog with just mustard, onion and peppers, Redhot Ranch in Wicker Park or Al's under the Lake St. EL are my favorites. The hand-cut fries there are some of the best in the city.

For the most ****ing-awesome looking hot dog stand, follow the neon glow to Suzie's Drive-In in Avondale.
