Holy crap! You know about that place?! I used to work there for a few summers in college when I went home to visit my folk!!!

The best part about Pete's is Pete, that drunken' good ol' boy Republican chain-smokin' sonnubitch! Crusty trucker hats lining the ceilings, walls covered by years of tobacco and grease haze, oh my... I could go on forever about that place!

It's not quite as good as it used to be, but it is still an American Icon! Great place!!!

Even though I grew up downstate, I crave Chicago Italian Beefs, dogs and deep dish pizzas. Living in South Dakota, I've had food shipped, driven home with a Suburban filled with coolers and tried numerous recipes (which DO help tide me over) but I really tend to pig out when I'm in the area. When I travel by plane I've even scheduled my flights to allow time to get to the food court to have a beef and dog between flights. - lol

I'm using this thread to help me plan my route for driving back to IL later this year =|

I'm with Avengerfire and the others on the Superdawg recommendation all the way!

If you want something kind of different (as in not entirely traditional), I love Hot Doug's on California by Gordon Tech. He's got great Chicago dogs, but will also throw in something like a Cognac-infused pheasant sausage to make things interesting. And he serves duck fat fries on Fridays and Saturdays only, and those things are freakin' awesome. Add some 70s punk rock from the CBGBs era, and it's a fun place to eat.... When there's not a line around the block, that is.

Pete is a hard headed man. He still runs the same joint in the same place and refuses to sell out to developers. His dogs are dang good, but not the best. Long live Petes!
