Hi, I am interested in maybe taking the family to Carowinds early in 2009. Is it clean? Does anyone that has been there have any thoughts on it? Never been there before but it'd be nice to check it out, and maybe spend a couple of nights so we'd have a full day. We're coming from Raleigh.

Carowinds is very clean. Can be fun for the whole family. Not sure when you are coming (month)...but there is also a fairly large water park. A couple of hotels on Carowinds Blvd too if you are over nighting. Also CArowinds is right beside of I-77 at Exit #90 in South Carolina (Carowinds Blvd)...though 1/2 the Park is in Charlotte too.
Thanks! Probably more around spring break time. Didn't know about the water park but it sounds like fun too.
Keep in mind that Carowinds is the only amusement park between Atlanta (Six Flags) & Bush Gardens (Williamsburg) and can get quite crowded...especially on weekends and forget about the holidays. Early in the season when you are talking about should not be to bad though. Best to get ther very early when they 1st open. There are tons of other things to see in Charlotte too. Enjoy Charlotte!
I would suggest a hotel in Uptown Charlotte...10-12 minutes to Carowinds...you could explore the city too.

My son worked at Carowinds this past summer - he operated one of the roller coasters. Just so you know...the park contains a LOT of roller coasters. There are of course other rides, a nice kiddie area, the water park, etc. But just be prepared for a lot of roller coasters!
Thanks for the info, all. We'd love to see some more of the stuff in Charlotte too. The wife and my oldest son love rollercoasters (I don't do them, really ) so I figured I'd take them there and they can go at it, lol. More of a Disney person myself, but they will enjoy it and the water park sounds fun (weather permitting).
